There are 52 weekends in a year, dude...............

I recently learned you can consume the leftovers from a vape.  Like eat straight up, no oil or butter required. Sprinkle on pizza, etc.

That comes to 0.9 ounces per person.

175 metric tons = 385,809 pounds
Population of Washington = 6.9mm

385809/6900000 = 0.0559 pounds = 0.9 ounces

I don't smoke weed-- I have no idea if that's alot per person.

It's not. An eighth of an ounce will last me a couple months, and I don't even smoke all that much. I'd estimate I go through maybe a little less than an ounce a year.

As soon as Law Enforcement  got comfortable with the idea that modern testing can turn this into a cash cow on the Justice System side as well as the tax revenue side, everybody laid right down.

I'm still going to be a tad surprised if any actual retail shops open up.

"The fear that comes with selling too little is that unlicensed dealers will spring up to meet the need, while if too much is sold the price will be driven down and could lead to more people traveling to Washington from out of state for the drug."

I expect some increase in individual use. The same effect as the Freshman 15. Having the freedom to get what you need anytime you want will go to some peoples head. Then I expect usage to level out.

I wonder what the illegal usage was? 175 metric tons sounds like a lot. But there is no basis for comparison. But the stats based on total population is useless. What percentage of the population smokes? I am curious to see how that works out. Because 50 joints or .9 oz per person is not a lot. When I was into it that was more like monthly use not annual.

Hah! Speak for yourself. Tukhella never saw a dollar they didn't love, and as soon as they found out they can tack a couple of points on to the local sales tax they were all over that shiat.

Yep, it's better to risk creating a black market (that you just destroyed) and funding criminals than risk making it worthwhile for people to visit your fine state to buy one of your legal products. Gotta keep that price high. Methinks there's more to this, like influence from the alcohol industry or totalitarian politicians who can't imagine an industry that isn't centrally-planned and overly-regulated.

I'd wager they're smoking the same amount of weed now as they ever did. Because it's legal, it's possible for the first time to get a somewhat accurate estimate of consumption. Nothing to see here, folks.

One ounce is about 28 grams. Half a gram will roll a decent one paper joint, so 50 joints in an ounce is a reasonable estimate, especially if it's just one person toking on it.

2013-12-18 10:37:52 PM
They also found that 80 percent of the weed consumed is done so by 20 percent of the smokers (or dabbers, vapers, etc.).

HaywoodJablonski: Has life changed significantly since the legalization? Genuinely curious...

Not much really has changed.  Mostly people who are in situations of high stress are a lot more mellow which is a huge plus for me(I am in retail sales).  Some of the people who are trying to get toys for their kids are now like "Whatever..."

/Of course what they do when they go home with their kids is another matter entirely
//Especially while driving..

Yup.  You can get 7 decent NY joints from an 8th, or 3 1/2 Bob Marley joints.
