I had an '02 and there was always something minor wrong with it including this squeak in the steering column they never could find that was tantamount to Chinese water torture. My '07 Silverado was much better truck

I really like F-150, but they're always more expensive than they should be here in rural Arizona. Demand is kinda high. The truck of choice up here, though, is the Dodge 2500 and 3500 Stegasaurus Diesel 4X4 with an 8-inch lift kit and a gun rack for 5 rifles. I guess the cold mountain air really shrivels some penises.

I'm still rumbling around in my 02 Dodge Ram 1500. When I bought it, I checked out the Silverado and the F150, which were more expensive. Could not see enough of a difference to justify the difference.

CSB - I worked for VW back when the Yugo came out... they were rather concerned about a car coming into the market that cost half as much as a Golf. They bought a couple of them and had their engineers take them apart. Management wasn't able to get a complete report for almost 2 weeks... because that's how long it took the engineers to stop laughing. /CSB

I have 230,000 trouble-free miles on my 2002 VW Tdi, and it still gets 50 mpg. I took the 24 months no-interest financing from Vee Dub, so it's been paid for since 2004.

I had one. $13k for a nice coupe with a good (enough) V6. Really liked it. Good car for the wife. It's just a bit small for me, but I enjoyed it anyway. But you're right. It was no Ferrari.

Honda/Acura has really shiat the bed on transmissions. Everyone still thinks they're these great reliable cars, and in general they are. But when they go bad they go BAD. I've heard all sorts or horror stories about recent Accords, Odysseys and MDXs having to drop $2500 to $5000 for transmission replacements.

My '07 F-150 keeps having front suspension issues. My next used truck will either be a Dodge or another Ford. 4-speed transmissions are so 1990's.

All three were making horrible transmission noises.

Has Ford improved its quality in the past couple of years? I swore never to buy American after the shiatshow of declining quality that contributed to their near-bankruptcies, but the new Focus hatchback is teh secks.

My family has owned 3 Hondas (1 a complete POS, 2 fantastic), 1 Mazda (fairly reliable but not tolerant to my brother's lack of maintenance), 2 Toyotas (1, the transmission went early; the other, reliable as hell).

I just want a reliable car and will pay a premium for it. I don't have confidence that Ford will deliver. Please tell me I'm wrong.

No Ferd Fteenthousand?

Lets see..

1.) My first car was a Chevy Vega (hand me down from my parents... didn't know they hated me so much)
2.) Traded that in for a Chevy Luv (made by Isuzu.. was in the shop a lot).
3.) Traded that in for an S-10 Blazer (4WD).. the front CV boots on it kept ripping and it wouldn't pass inspection without new ones every year to the tune of 400 bucks.. (eventually learned to fix them myself).
4.) Traded that in for a S-10 Tahoe 4WD after the dealer promised they had the boot issue fixed... he was full of shiat.
5.) Traded that in for a Chevy Celibrity wagon for my wife.. paint peeled after 2 years and Chevy wouldn't do the right thing and fix it.

It took me 5 stinking tries to learn my lesson.

Since then it has been all Ford's till my latest truck.. a Toyota. (they claim more of the parts in it are american sourced and assembled than any other American truck).

Love the Toyota so far (32k miles so far).

I keep seeing Dodges blowing oil smoke that shouldn't be old enough for rings or valve seals to fail. Someone else told me the door hinges were delicate. Was issued a Chevrolet truck not that long ago, where if the passenger put his feet in the wrong place, the climate control fan got disconnected. Oh, and if you're buying one, order the Allison transmission. Every gawddam brand has issues, even Toyota and Honda.

????

Ford 500s haven't even been in production since 2007, according to Wiki.  That would hardly qualify as new.
