FTFM

is there some hidden message we are missing here, or did an LP guy touch you in the bad place?

Just tired of people who feel the need to change the name of their job to make it sound kind of glamorous.

Loss prevention manager is more accurate than security guard. His job isn't to keep things safe, its to prevent stuff from walking out the door.

KMart has LP officers? Maybe they should work directly for the CEO and prevent the massive losses they experience every quarter.

Sigh.  This article has been green for 3 hours and on TF for God knows how long and there has been no mention of Don Brodka.

I can not believe the sorry state of liberal arts education in this country where the GREATEST security guard in all of fictional culture does not even get a fleeting thought!

Shame on you!  Shame on you all!

secularsage: Happens all the time, I'm afraid. It happens to GameStop managers pretty often, too, when they get caught selling their stolen merchandise to competitors (though those are becoming rarer and rarer).

This is why criminals so often get caught... they aren't smart enough to realize that this stuff is tracked by inventory systems and that LP officers from corporate offices coordinate with each other. All it takes is knowing one serial number that was stolen and suddenly, Kmart can have GameStop pull an entire account on the guy and provide a list of every time, date and place he's sold merchandise for cash. Then they can compare it to their stockloss record and build a strong case against him. LP people should know better than that.

I hate thieves and would never encourage their behavior. But seriously, people -- if you're going to steal, sell that crap on Craigslist, where it's hard to track you, you get cash for your merchandise and where the buyers are less likely to keep records. Also, if you have something new to sell and it's not a collectible, take the shrink-wrap off and ruffle the game manual or something. Make it look "Like New" instead of new. That makes it much harder to prove you stole it and much less likely to raise red flags for the buyer.

Or skip the consoles and just do games since there are no serial numbers for games.

CSB Time: back in my teen years in the Stone Age I worked at a K-Mart, early on I saw this shady character sneaking around the store only to learn the guy was the store's loss prevention manager.  He looked like a skinny Snidely Whiplash, like John Waters and Steve Buscemi's lovechild.  Years later I learned he had been blackmailing employees caught stealing to hand over part of their weekly paycheck instead of going to the cops, had been doing this for quite some time and had built up a considerable workforce of slaves before a couple of the blackmailees went to the cops themselves.

So Gamestop received stolen goods and probably even resold them before they realized what was going on.

Throw the book at them. Which they'll probably give you a quarter for.

The records said he was also working as a loss prevention manager when he stole numerous video games, Nintendo game systems and miscellaneous food items from his employer.

Dude stole thousands of dollars in games and probably got $18 in reselling to Game Stop. Maybe $27 if he has a PowerUp Rewards card.
