Why is there a picture of a giant dildo accompanying the article?

I thought it was one of those Japanese vibrators with all the fancy lights and spinning things.

Up here in space
I'm looking down on you
My laser's trace
Everything you do
You think you've private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
I'm watching all the time
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm electric, electric spy
I'm protective electric eye
Always in focus
You can't feel my stare
I zoom into you
You don't know I'm there
I take a pride in probing
All your secret moves
My tearless retina
Takes pictures that can prove
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm electric, electric spy
I'm protective electric eye
Electric eye
In the sky
They feel the stare
So always there
There's nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm electric, electric spy
I'm protecting electric eye
I'm electric, electric spy
I'm protecting
Protective, detective
Electric eye

Replacing humans with robots is a bad idea for just about anything. Robots should never replace a paying job, that's for sure.

Or at least some provision should be made for the people being displaced.

I guarantee you that there would fewer psychopathic robots as police than there are as human police.

Naw, robots are fine.  I just think our cops are fat and lazy enough as it is.  If they want to sniff everyone in town for pot, they're going to have to do it themselves, not by drone.
Am I the only one who see's this becoming OCP style Robocop stuff.

If I'm being honest I'm totally prejudiced against robots. I don't want to talk to a robot on the phone. I don't want to have to figure out how a robot thinks just so I can pay for my goddamn groceries. I don't want to have to do that with something as important as dealing with a cop. Robots suck.

That's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw the pic.

"We like to try and solve the big problems" Li added when asked why the robot had been created.

Did he just call cops fat?

I'm liking it so far. But since it's on Fox and it's not a reality show, it will probably be cancelled mid season.

So, the cops are getting their reward for being loyal strongarm thugs for the corporatocracy?

/amidoinitrite?

The article mentions replacing police, but goes on to say the robots would start recording everything around them while notifying police that their help was needed. This takes them out of the realm of "replacement law enforcement" and moves them squarely over to "smart cameras that you rent by the hour".

It's another, friendlier? way to progress towards full time surveillance.

Love the sample picture showing the unit "defending schoolchildren", too. Do it for the children.

Robot Vigilantes to Replace Police for £3.80 an Hour

I thought the Brits were the ones always bragging that they know how to correctly use the English language?

And it isn't really "replacing police", as the article implies, it's really a mobile camera that alerts cops when there is actual help needed.

You mean when someone needs to have their farking head smashed in, since the robots won't be able to conveniently disable their cameras.

I suspect robots will give fewer forced enemas than cops in New Mexico, but that's a small perk for the victims to have to give up.

My wife and I *love* that show.  It's especially funny how Dorian screws with Kennex.  The best Kennex can do is snappy one-liner put-downs.

It's also interesting that Dorian completely ignores Asimov's second law of robotics: A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

"The robot comes in two principal models: the K10, designed for open spaces, and the K5, which is better suited to more enclosed environments."

FOP's will demand production of K9 model.  This model kills the family pet for barking regardless the nature of the call or the threat actually posed by the animal.

A couple hours late, but  --  "Imagine a friend that can see, hear, feel and smell; that would tirelessly watch over your neighbourhood, keep your loved ones safe and put a smile on anyone walking by your business" - I think I'll stick with the K-9 model....
