Was anyone even thinking that? She was next to him the other day at the Kim Jong Il death anniversary party.

The question is where was Jong Un's aunt (wife of now-deceased Jang Song Thaek) was. Word is that she was just sick, but word on the street is that she's as dead as her husband.

FORMER American basketball star Dennis Rodman is to pay a third visit to his "good friend" Jong-un this week in a bid to improve relations between the two countries.

I don't get this. The media freaks out because the President shook hands with the leader of Cuba at a memorial ceremony - and this moron keeps going to North Korea and that's just fine? Nobody has a problem with this?  It really doesn't make sense to me....

And what makes Dennis Rodman some sort of "ambassador" for this country, anyway? He's not one of our great minds, a politician, or even particularly intelligent.

Not that I think shaking hands with a Castro is worthy of outrage but there's a difference between the President doing something, and some schmoe who used to play a sport. Why would anyone have a problem with him going to North Korea? I'm hoping it turns out like

Because we're not on good terms with North Korea and Rodman is running around like an idiot, somehow acting like he's an official representative of our country? That seems like a pretty good reason to me.

Yeah, but if Rodman can get something done. . . I'm not normally Machiavellian about things, but if a cross-dressing, wacko ex-basketball star prevents nuclear war, then bring on the high heels and fishnets!

I thought that, but it doesn't appear that he's being advised by our government (but who knows maybe he is) and the fact that he is so wacko is why it makes me uncomfortable. Seems like he could easily say one wrong thing and nutso over there will think he speaks for the whole country and start attempting to lob missiles again.  I'm usually slightly more optimistic about things that I am being right now, but how much faith can anyone be expected to have in Dennis Rodman.

How this all even came about is baffling to be honest.

Dennis Rodman is probably being advised by Dennis Rodman. Which is a terrifying thought.

I would like to think that somewhere, way way down in the recesses of his mind, Kim knows that Rodman doesn't represent the US and its political/diplomatic aims.

I read that the aunt of now-dead uncle is Kim Jong Il's sister. I doubt KJU would off her, but this is Best Korea.

/what a mindfark of a country

2013-12-18 01:31:51 PM
I think we should all know by now that any photo/video released by "the official news" center for NK, is almost certainly doctored, or an outright fake.  Just because they show it doesn't make it true.

As far as Rodman goes.  He is clearly a farking idiot.  He doesn't even realize how stupid what he is doing really is.
For a start, if he thinks he can improve relations with the US and NK, he has to realize that the US is not the one with the problem here.  It's them.  As long as they continue to act as they do, they cannot be part of the larger world picture.

It's not a matter of the US and NK not being able to get along.  It's that they have a tendency to, for example, machine gun people to death for supposedly subverting the government.  It is not a civilized way to behave.

Because he's going to say the wrong thing to the wrong person and be critical of the country or Kim Jong-un or something equally stupid.

Which is exactly why Un is denying killing his WIFE.....his version of misdirection.   It Does Seem Lil' Kim watched a few Gangster movies in that Swiss boarding school of his.  He Looks to be going all   Goodfellason the powers around his throne.  Embracing them one second, just so the don't suspect that the next someone is gonna put a bullet in their brain.   The word last week was that the aunt had survived the purge and actualy been promoted.  This week? Not so much.

That's the prevailing view and what drives a lot of our policy. The idea is to let them collapse as gently as possible, presumably when Kim Jong Un cannot control the military any longer. When they go down, the US, China & S Korea have to be ready to move in and try to salvage the mess.

And then there is this UN seems to be a huge  early -90's era bulls fan so Rodman is a very big deal t him, Rodman seems like such a clown that NO ONE would ever suspect him of being a conduit for official messages to and from Dear Leader.  IF you really wanted to open up a secure back channel with the kid, Rodman would be nearly the perfect tool.  There is still part of me that suspects that the Western -educated KIm is interested in reforming and opening up his country, but realizes he gonna have to go full Michael Corleone and eliminate the rival power bases in his country to have a prayer of surviving that move

It was an ex girlfriend that was executed for being in "pornography" which was totally NOT pornography. It may be a rumor that sprung up as a result of the original story being ran through the Internet Telephone Game. Regardless at this point nothing surprises me with that country government. She may have already been killed replaced with a clone which has already been resurrected from the remains of his high school indentured servant sweetheart. The real gas is going to be who gets that crazy pie when the timer goes off. It'll be like watching a bunch of people fight over a big stinky turd filled with diamonds.

Erm, no. Most average North Koreans, outside of the power structure of the party, view him as a living God, his rule divinely handed to him by the earthly messenger of the heavens, Kim Jong Il. This is a people who, from the very moment they are born, are indoctrinated with the belief that their dear leader is the only thing standing between them and total annihilation at the hands.

We could march across the border throwing MREs everywhere, and they'd still fight down to the last child because of their belief in Dear Leader.

No, I just think it's strange that not enough people think it's strange.  And our government HAS told people they can't go to Cuba (which is why I made the parallel).

If he has any missiles? He'll not hit us, no.  South Korea would be in danger of something happening.  Possibly Japan. That's what everyone was worried about when he was moving things around earlier this year.  Nobody believes that he has the capability to strike the United States.  I don't want to see him strike anyone, though, if he goes off the rails crazy and launches a missile that actually takes off.

As for me having things "in common" with Rodman... okay... all of that's true. Now, let's think about this: do you want me as the sole ambassador to a hostile country?   And we can just base that on my looks and years on Fark.
