God, that tweet could only be more ironic if she were an editor.  Well, she probably was, since there don't seem to be actual editors anywhere nowadays.

I'm sorry, but anyone who adheres to working their asses off for almost no reason gets what they get.

There is no point in 30 hour days.  Period.

How did I know energy drinks were going to feature in this story?

I swear, the amount of that crap I see kids and young adults drinking makes me sad for their poor innards. I predict we're going to see a ton of problems attributed to energy drinks in the next 10-15 yrs.

Most babyboomers have completely destroyed their social lives by working 60-80 hours per week for their entire lives. And these people die in their 20s? This new generation is full of pussies. Get back to work, dying isnt an excuse.

People who think work is some sort of spiritual causeway are stuck two hundred years back.

I work way more than forty hours per week, but that does not make me the better man. It makes me one of the confused jumble of humanity.

/RIP and better luck next time

the mind can only work or absorb what the ass can endure. lengthy meetings, working someone hours past their efficient ability, Amish church services that go on over four hours - all signs of people that don't know better.
maybe she wanted the money. maybe she was too meek to stand up for herself. now a moot point.

To be fair

politics has everything to do with a culture that rewards productivity-at-any-cost (like, say, getting workers to work themselves to death) as opposed to punishing what should be a criminal business practice

not only that, it's basically the only thing to discuss after it happens other than "damn, that's shiatty, sorry for her friends and family".

You can talk about energy drinks and how she should have just magically found that perfect healthy job all you want. Fact is, no one pays you to do a job unless you make them money. Someone made money off this chick killing herself trying to handle her workload, or make a living wage, or whatever the hell motivated her.

At the end of the day, her company should not be allowed to work people those hours. And there is a very real political battle going on every day in many nations between the people that think we should have sane labor laws and the people that think business should never be held accountable for any of the things that lie completely under their control and responsibility.

Hell, discussing it in a political light is about the only thing we can do after the fact that is of any use to society.

/It sure as shiat ranks above praying about it or feeling bad.

You gotta love the companies message of love and sorrow for this fine employee, who was loved by everyone, apparently, except the company, who worked her to her grave by making her work days at a time. If they had been honest, the message would have looked like this.

/We are saddened and angry at the loss of one of our employees who was willing to work 3 days in a row, while we went out and got blowjobs, beer, and steaks. We mourn, mourn the loss of this person, who's work we will now have to take the time to do ourselves, or more truthfully, pawn it off on another patsy who is intimidated by management. Oh...pity us, the rich and nine to five, who now have to begin the search for someone as gullible as this sweet employee we cared so much about. Ahem.

During Thanksgiving , I was awake for 70 hours without help from any stimulants.  In fact, I had a lot of alcohol (and turkey) during that time.  When I finally crashed, I slept for 7 hours!  For some reason, I normally sleep only 4-5 hours (sometimes only 3) per night ; always have - even as a child.  So for me to sleep for 7 hours, I must have been totally spent!

Btw, I am 54, and can still "out party" 20-something wimps!

For what these agencies get paid I'd expect copy that didn't look like it was written by someone who has been up 30 hours. I don't know how they break things down in that world, but either hire more writers or don't promise so much to your clients.

What a sissy.  I've done at least 3 days straight awake before, living on caffeine and adrenaline.  I was in my late teens, early twenties though.  Don't know if I could do it today.

Wait a minute, are you telling me that some people are so infatuated with their own political leanings that they'd take an event in another country and somehow try to use it to justify their flawed view of the world?

30 hrs.  Whoop-tee-doo.  Personally stayed up for 88hrs during a deployment (military) and didn't give it a second thought as others were regularly doing more.  And that was 88hrs of pretty significant physical and mental exertion.  You pretty much go into auto-pilot at some point.  I believe my Sister (a doctor) endured worse during residency.  Anyway, boo-hoo.  Shouldn't have used stimulants (pills/drinks/etc.).

Dear Friends and Colleagues in the Advertising & Marketing community,

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we have to inform you we have lost our friend, sister, and work colleague, Mita Diran, earlier this evening. Mita was a talented copywriter with a gentle smile who will always live on in our hearts.

We have been to Mita's family residence tonight and expressed our sincere condolences on behalf of Y&R Group Indonesia. It is a great loss and we wish Mita's family the faith and strength in each other in going through this extremely difficult time.

Tomorrow, December 16, we will close the office for the day to pay our last respects to Mita at her funeral at Jeruk Purut cemetery at 10 AM. Let us all take a day of silence tomorrow and give Mita's family the support and prayers that they need, from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely, Y&R Group Indonesia

You have to be a special kind of asshole to be able to work your employees to death as a norm, and then vomit this obvious PR bullshiat all over the grieving family and friends. You are going to close the business for one day in honor of her? Wow...you are some special kind of hero. Try not treating your employees like slaves, and CARE about them. But..that doesn't make you richer though, does it. This..is the reason that unions were formed. She would have had a decent living wage, 40 hours a week, and gone home to mom and dad.

As someone who knows someone who worked for Y&R this is pretty apt.
