Facebook Inc. will begin selling video advertisements later this week, according to people familiar with the matter. ... Facebook plans to make the announcement on Tuesday and the ads will begin on Thursday on users' feeds both on the Web and on smartphones, the people familiar with the matter said. ... The ads will play automatically in users' feeds, the people familiar with the matter said, regardless of whether users click on them.

Ads playing automatically will definitely increase traffic to the site! It will also encourage users to log on at work just to play the game of audio level roulette. Who doesn't enjoy being blasted in the ear hole by obnoxious ads at an unreasonable volume.

Mr.Tangent: Coming April 2014, $5/month ad free Facebook accounts.  What kind of sucker would fall for that trick?

I think they will go with the $5 a month to see everything in your feed, not just what the FB MCP thinks you should.

I was annoyed when a friend posted a video of their christmas lights and it auto played.  And I like them.  How do they think I'll react when I start getting 'But wait there's more!' crap shouted at me?

Never been to Google+ before.  Any advice for a noob?

Don't. There's no option for "show me things in the order they were posted". It's either "last modified" or "most revenue generating".

/actually pondering going back to Livejournal.
