I've heard that cops don't do very well when incarcerated. This should provide another data point.

"leading officers on a high-speed chase while allegedly driving intoxicated. "
Would it be phrased the same way if the perp was not an officer? I doubt it!

Wouldn't a cop know that you basically can't elude the police in a high-speed chase?

Today Garrett Peterson resigned as a Tempe Police Officer after he was contacted by phone to begin an internal investigation reference his arrest this weekend. Garrett has been employed with the Tempe Police Department since May of 2007 and has worked in our Patrol Bureau his entire career as an Officer.

Cop does normal cop things for 5 years.  Gets divorced.  Goes a little crazy.  Gets arrested.  Resigns.  Gets released on bail.  Goes crazy some more.

As one of the people who sometimes get pegged as "cop haters", there doesn't seem to be anything outrageous about this story.  It even looks like he's getting charged over this.

Sounds like he didn't plan on surviving the second chase.

Could be, sounds like planning wasn't a big part of things by then.
Not much chance of a third outing, it seems.
