the link doesn't go to gawker, it goes to the artist's site.

That is the original site, it's the guy's personal website. No clue why it says io9 for the site tag

The Rob Liefeld one was funny.

DarkLancelot: The Rob Liefeld one was funny.

I laughed my ass of on that one. Trying to explain that to the wife was impossible though.

It's a text tag, so that is what the submitter put there. An actual IO9 link would have been identified and gotten the the logo image.

The Rob Liefeld one is fatally flawed because the feet are shown rather than obscured/hidden.

Jesus, get a dog like a real man.

I loved the series of MAD ones.

up he really captures not only the style of the art but the jokes too see also the Far Side and Adventure Time ones.  I thought his  Miyazaki onewas sort of weak but maybe he's just a fan of his earlier work. Otherwise it's a great series of images.

Lots of good ones in there, and I appreciated the Canadian content.

2013-12-16 09:33:20 PM
The guy is legitimately skilled. I dig the whole page, and I love that he quit his job to pursue his artistic career. That's awesome. Frankly, I think everyone should quit their stupid job and do what they WANT to do for a living, and be paid for it if they're any good at it, whether it be art, music, ditch digging, cooking, counting other peoples' money, or healing people... The problem with the world today is that so many people are miserable and stuck doing something they hate just to survive. It was never supposed to be that way.

So yes, I endorse the guy's work heartily. Bravo to him for doing what he loves.

2013-12-16 09:39:39 PM
The Mike Mignola one impressed me.

And yeah, the Rob Liefeld one was great.

2013-12-16 09:41:26 PM
This was unexpectedly entertaining.

The jokes seal the deal in a lot of them; also a fan of Hergé, Underzo, and the Archer ones.

That's what I did. The tradeoff being if I weren't married I'd be starving to death, but I truly do enjoy going to, and being at work. If I win the lottery, I'd still do what I do now, just with INSANE gear.

/upside is I get to raise my infant son

Outstanding.

2013-12-16 09:48:23 PM
CATPOUCH.

2013-12-16 09:52:44 PM
LOLed at the Rob Liefeld and Don Martin.

After seeing Moebius, I was hoping for Enki Bilal or Philippe Druillet.

2013-12-16 09:54:39 PM
Surprised there wasn't a Simpsons version.

2013-12-16 09:54:55 PM
I'd love to see his take on Frank Cho's style, but I'd rather not see he jugs on his cat... or him.

That's easy for you to say, but I don't see myself becoming spaceship captain anytime soon.

2013-12-16 10:09:32 PM
I'd be curious to see if he can do Scott Adams, Darby Conley, or Stephan Pastis.

2013-12-16 10:17:11 PM
I have to say, that is the most "Far Side" like "Far Side Tribute" that I've seen, and I've seen quite a few people online try to mimic it.  Not only in the style of the drawing, but, maybe more importantly, the humor and set up of the joke is spot on "Far Side"... if someone told me Larson did that, I wouldn't have guessed otherwise.

2013-12-16 10:33:44 PM
The Dave Berg was terrible.

2013-12-16 10:45:58 PM
Love the Pete Bagge. Was kinda hoping for a Los Bros Hernandez.

Came for the Bloom County panel, leaves well satisfied.

Rea Irvin/Eustace B. Tilley/New Yorker-style
Bil Keane (Family Circus)
Gary Trudeau (Doonesbury)
Richard Outcalt (Yellow Kid)
Tom Toles
Charles Nast
Reg Smythe (Andy Capp)
Hanna-Barbera (I'd prefer Jetsons, but Scooby Doo or something else would be fine)
Sid & Marty Kroft

2013-12-16 11:24:51 PM
Sorry, *Thomas* Nast.

Also, Tom Tomorrow (This Modern World), Max Cannon (Red Meat)

2013-12-16 11:34:28 PM
Weird.  I'm scrolling through these with my wife sitting next to me and it turns out she knew Paul Pope in college.  She wasn't surprised at all that he's gone on to success.

This guy is pretty good at adapting to different styles of comic art. I'm curious as to how he'd do with Phil Foglio.

Oh yeah, perfect. He should do himself up as a jagermonster and his cat as Krosp.

Also missing:

B Kliban
Bill Griffiths
Bill Plympton
Jules Feiffer

2013-12-17 12:44:40 AM
I can't believe I forgot his name, but his comic is Mutts.

2013-12-17 01:06:55 AM
Tip of the hat for Jean "Mobius" Giraud (44)...

2013-12-17 01:13:40 AM
I get the feeling the guy is going to keep doing this, so he's likely going to cover any big names he's not done yet.

2013-12-17 01:54:27 AM
He really should cover the worst of the comics, too:

Bill Keane (Family Circus)
Mort Walker (Hi & Lois, Beetle Bailey)
Jim Davis (Garfield)
Brad Anderson (Marmaduke)
Johnny Hart (B.C., Hagar, et. al.)
Bruce Tinsley (Mallard Fillmore)
Greg Land (pornface tracer comic book artist)
Humberto Ramos (awful comic book artist who needs an anatomy class)
Eric Canete (Warped, surrealist comic book artist who needs to stop doing LSD while drawing)

/Maybe he did and I missed them.

2013-12-17 01:54:43 AM
That's kind of impressive.  I wasn't expecting the Archer one, and all of them made me smile.

And weapons.

Came here to say something to that effect.

I liked the Richard Condie tribute.

If you don't recognize the above artists, here are a few examples:

Eric Canete's Luke Cage:

Eric Canete's Spider-Man:

Eric Canete's Luke Cage, Spidey, and Ronin:

Humberto Ramos' anatomy ideals:

(Note: I like Humberto's work when he reels it in a bit. It's when he goes crazy and decides that human spines are made of rubber that I find him annoying. Also, he can't draw breasts that don't look like bad bolt-ons. Every woman he draws has had horrible plastic surgery.)

Greg Land pornfaces:

Greg Land's technique:
