DanZero: Maybe because all Rush did this year was a LIVE album, therefore there would be no new tracks on it? If this was a list from 2012, then I'd expect at least one.

There's no hate on Fark greater than RUSH hate outside the Politics tab. What did they ever do to you?

/best live album they put out

Just roll with it, DZ. It's like the Grateful Dead. Some people get Rush, most don't. They're incredibly polarizing, which, IMO, is the mark of a good artist. Love them or hate them, at least they won't bore the shiat outta you like most of the here today, gone tomorrow acts the RIAA pumps and dumps on the unsuspecting public.

only one of those I really listened to was Deafheaven which is kind of a less harsh atmospheric black metal band. It's alright but not as good as some of the other metal that came out this year imo

I've heard of 25 of those. Pitchfork better be careful, they're in danger of losing their hipster cred.

Gawd, even band NAMES suck these days.

Jesus, but that piece of shiat Kanye West song is on there? he one with the just-as-much-of-a-piece-of-shiat video?Wow.

Janelle Monáe

OK, saw this girl on SNL, and I couldn't help but like her... Daft Punk? Sure, they had a hit and it was catchy. After David Bowie, I don't think there's anything on that list I care about. And yeah, about 90 bands I've never heard of.

PolloDiablo: There a few tracks I was surprised to not see on there, but overall a pretty solid list.

Funny, like a clown

factoryconnection: That being said, I'm disappointed that "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons didn't make the list

Mormon metal.

I thought "The Raven that Refused to Sing" by Steven Wilson was a beautiful song that somebody, somewhere might put on some silly, arbitrary best songs of 2013 list.

So far, I've been wrong.

Is 44 too young to not have even knowingly heard of a single song on the list?  I've heard of some of the groups/singers, but not a single one of the songs.  It's not like I listen to country or anything ridiculous like that.

Ennuipoet: Who the fark are the people and why REO Speedwagon not on this list?

Two words.. Gary Richrath

Without him REO sounds like a cover band.

LlamaGirl: Earguy: I'm with you. Come over to my house and I'll put on my Beatles and Elton John records.

Toss some Bowie Davie Jones in there and you got yourself a deal!

Not really. I'm the same age but I keep my ears open for new music that appeals to me and like I said above, I'm only familiar with 25 of those entries (and have actually heard a dozen or so of the tracks).

violentsalvation: After looking at the list, and the other garbage on Pitchfark's website this sounds like good news for Rush!

Neil: "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah!"
Geddy: "Blah Blah"
Rush fans: "ZOMG!"

Any list that tries to convince me that Daft Punk is music is invalid on its face.

Besides, Rush hasn't put anything new out this year, unless you count the live album/dvd from the Clockwork Angels tour.

Now Alice in Chains on the other hand? The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is an excellent album

I'm glad they ranked Deafheaven's "Dream House" so high. That song (and the whole album) is unlike any other extreme metal I've ever heard, in a very good way. It utterly defies mainstream aesthetics yet beautifully cuts to an emotional, vulnerable marrow. It's like if black metal got real and dropped the corpse paint.

For f*cks sake guys, I thought it was pretty obvious the Rush thing was a joke.

Recognized a few names, but none of the songs

2013-12-17 02:40:12 PM
Don't recognize a damn one of those songs.  Of the artists on that list I have heard of Daft Punk, David Bowie, Kanye West, and Mariah Carey.

God, I'm not even eligible for AARP yet.

Professor Wormbog: PolloDiablo: Professor Wormbog: anye is like what white people think hip hop is. but it's not hip hop. it's just pop music.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with pop music, especially good original pop music.

That said, Yeezus is easily the least "poppy" and accessible album Kanye has made, and the fact that it doesn't meet your arbitrary definition of hip-hop isn't really a commentary on the quality of the track.

YOU CAN'T SING "F*CK YOU AND YOUR CORPORATION" WHEN YOUR MUSIC IS PRODUCED BY UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP.

Yeah add rage against the machine to that as well.
