I don't care what he did, a few stones to the head to some kids when he was younger is worth watching him talk to a tree in The Happening. That shiat was comedy gold.

I wasn't going to believe that, since Wahlberg's done well for himself, but Dicaprio has been the lead in dozens of high-profile movies with bigger net returns. But now looking at their IMDB pages, it looks like Wahlberg has been doing more producing, especially recently, so it's possible that he's level, money-wise.

I find it amusing that often the same people who condemn Marky Mark for his past indiscretions as a youth are often the same people who congratulate others such as Ice T, Jay Z, etc for rising above their history of criminal activity and violence.  I'm not directing this at anyone in this thread necessarily, just and observation.

In 1997 I would agree with you. But Leo managed to erase the hate I had for him after Titanic. Marky Mark, well he was okay in Three Kings.

One is an undercover cop, risking his life by infiltrating organized crime. The other is a police mole, working for that same crime boss trying to expose the rat. Of course they have problems.

Wrong. The mole was farking Matt Damon. And that movie was terrible. It won because it was a sympathy vote for Scorcese. Because folks felt bad for not giving him best director for Goodfellas.

I'm beginning to believe Matt Damon was actually the mole in that movie. Which was a great movie. Wahlberg was hilarious. Unless I'm thinking of Damon.

I don't think Wahlberg's nearly as bad as some make him out to be, but his choice in movie roles leaves a bit to be desired. I'd put DiCaprio ahead just based on consistency.

Wahlberg plays a clear type (Boston meathead) and does it well, plus has good comedy chops (The Other Guys).  DiCaprio is hideously overrated, only emotes by scrunching his face together.  It's amazing a director like Scorsese uses him almost exclusively, where he once used DiNiro and Keitel, etc.  But then Scorsese's a hack nowadays, too.  My point was more how bad DiCaprio actually is.

Wahlberg is a bit better at becoming the characters, while watching Leo its a lot harder to ignore that he is Leo.

I'd make the argument that he's always been a hack, but was surrounded by enough good people that you could never tell.

I thought Mark did a great job as a man-child in Ted, and a good job in The Fighter as the-guy-who-tries-his-best-to-do-what-he-thinks-his-family-wants-to-hi m-to-do-to-keep-things-moving-along, not-that-it-would-ever-work-out-that-way-what-the-hell-were-you-thinki ng-guy.

I'll always hate Leo for making every girl in my age range soaked when he did Titanic. Though, I did really like him in Inception and The Departed.

I agree.  The Departed was terrible.  I've said it here before, but so much of it is just cribbed from better movies.  There are two direct quotes Scorsese rips off from classics, for example -- Nicholson's death scene rips off Orson Welles' death scene on a heap of garbage in Touch of Evil, the girlfriend blowing past the guy at the funeral, walking toward the camera, was a rip off of the last, great shot in The Third Man.

It was a lazy-ass movie, brain-dead at large, had no soul, and then had one of the stupidest ending shots of all time, with the rat on the balcony railing.  Compare/contrast with The Town or Gone Baby Gone for what Boston Noir can actually be.

That's what I said. I'm only a little younger than him and I'd probably be an insufferable little prick too if that's how I was directed in Titanic. But since then he's done good work.
