Dad? Yeah, he's sleeping.

Yeah, I know he was sleeping the last six times you came over! He's an old man! Old men need lots of sleep.

That? Well, the dog must have gotten into the trash again. His farts have been epic.

There's an awful lot of 'hikikomori' living here, too.
We call them 'eremites' (look up the etymology of that one if you want a 'holy shiat!" moment), or 'shut-ins', or they 'have social anxiety/agoraphobia'...or they're possibly Farkers/Farkettes.

Society gettin' just too damn crazy for some people to deal with...this is as close as they can come to 'Stop the world, I wanna get off!"

Where do you live? That's an English word and it's not that far off from the more commonly used  hermit.

Maybe you need to get out more. You don't have a dead relative lying around, do you? ;)

There's something stuck up in the chimney
And I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all night long.
Well, I waited up for Santa all Christmas night
But he never came and it don't seem right.
And there's something in the chimney
And it doesn't make a sound,
But I wish you Merry Christmas.

There's something stuck up in the chimney
And I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all week long.
Well, the dog keeps barking up the chimney flue
And we don't know what we're gonna do.
Cause there's something in the chimney
And it doesn't move around,
And it's been a week since Christmas.

There's something stuck up in the chimney
And I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all month long.
Well, it's jammed up tight above the fireplace
Now the house smells funny, such a big disgrace.
That there's something in the chimney
And it doesn't talk at all,
And it's been there since last Christmas.

There's something stuck up in the chimney
And I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all year long.
I'll be waiting up for Santa like I did last year
But my brother says, "He's already here."
And he's stuck up in the chimney
And he doesn't say a word
And he'll be there every Christmas.
And we'll have him every Christmas.

I had to read that line twice and it made me chuckle. I know that the writer meant to say "entrance exam" for colleges since it's a huge deal over there...

Tachypnea: Can someone explain why failing at life and living with your parents is now a disease?

My problem is I can't find a job that isn't minimum wage and has enough hours to be worth doing.  A good example -- McDonalds (yes, I resorted to applying there) offered to work me for 4-6 hours over 7 a 7 day period, which would net me an income of about $2 a day after expenses (or ~$5 a day to get to work and back).  Once a week I can usually call around and find some work for a day or two at a time where I'll make at least a hundred a day cash money.  There's no point in a minimum wage job when you can make the same, if not more, with a hustle of some kind.

I suspect a lot of people are in a position like me where the only jobs available actually cost more to do than what you'd make or just not enough made to be worth doing -- like me possibly making $12 a week at McD's part time.  Because of not making much money, I'm a bit of a shut in at my parents' house.  I'm not a lazy person and I've actually lost more jobs because I was a hard worker (been fired multiple times because I worked noticeably harder than everyone else and the boss "felt bad" not paying what I was worth -- working hard isn't necessarily the case when the boss just wants someone to work for cheap).  Had a job doing insulation, the crew head said I picked up running the hopper faster than anyone he's ever seen, got fired at the end of the first day because 3 work trucks broke down -- said to call back in 2 weeks, I did, they had already called and hired guys they had let go before me.  All I can find now are part time minimum wage jobs, with the biggest excuse being "part time is because of Obabacare, we can't afford full time workers".

I'm guessing it's due to the residual fallout from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Absolutely not, but the article does not mention agoraphobia. It says that they are shut-ins because of things like failing an exam. Meaning at one point they were in school or finished some form of school to at least take an entrance exam. It sounds similar to the 16 year old girls who break up with their boyfriend of 2 weeks and get all depressed and cutty because "they loved them so much".

I know of zero companies that hire part time employees for 2 hours shifts. Maybe I mis-read (or maybe you can't type worth shiat "for 4-6 hours over 7 a 7 day period", another reason for your unemployment) but it sounds like you will work 4 - 6 hours at a time. If you pull two jobs, maybe you could pull together some form of self suportiveness. Or sit on your folks couch and biatch about Obabacare (whatever the fark that is). Good luck Mr. Buffett.

I prefer the word recluse, it avoids implying that you are devoting yourself to prayer the way the terms hermit and eremite do.

Alternatively, I'm not antisocial, I'm selectively social. It's just my standards are very high and most people just don't make the cut.

how dafuq are you making $12.00 per week when the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour?
