Love the "concrete bunker" architecture of the police/municipal building. Oh NJ, sometimes you're hard to defend.

Please let cops who complain about being recorded in public sue their own department for being recorded in their own police station, please.

2013-12-16 07:06:50 AM
Why don't they just take the recorders, stomp on them, and give the owners a few whacks with a baton, like they do out in public?

I think all cops should have a video camera mounted to their foreheads the entire time they're on duty.

Isn't there already a few cities that require shoulder-mounted cams for all patrol officers? I remember reading that all accusations of assault by police officers dropped by 60% or something in the months following that.

Unless they're talking to their lawyer (attorney/client privilege) or undercover, and having the camera would actually risk their lives, I agree with you  100%.  If I were a cop, I would WANT to be recorded at all times, just so when some dumbass farker accused me a brutality, racist language, ect... I could pull out my camera and prove them wrong.

Or that when the camera is there and the cops know it, they think twice before stomping on someones' face/dog/parakeet. Because, lets face it, both situations happen with depressing frequency.

I'm sorry, I believe everything I see on TV, so I assumed this was always the case.

The ONLY way they will stop the audio will be to remove the Audio enabled cameras and replace them with video only cameras. As long as the capability is there someone will abuse it.

well, considering the tos of things such as facebook, i don't think the bar of privacy expectation (in one's own house) is exactly high

If only they sold security cameras that don't include a built-in microphone, we wouldn't have to take someone's word for it that the microphones are turned off. If only.

Yes, you live in a police state.  What are you going to do about it?  Let's all continue to focus on the important stuff, like the J-E-T-S quarterback situation.

This makes perfect sense as long as police officers generally do not abuse their power, with accusations typically being falsified by lying criminals or just a few officers who are bad apples as the narrative typically goes.

ANYTHING else can only lead us to one logical conclusion. A creeping, insidious, cancer of power corrupting those who actively seek to be in a position of authority.

Americans should be fighting for recordings but it won't happen as long as people think only law-breakers end up on the business end of a police officer's anger.

We had a vote come up a few years back about having police being recorded at all times. The Police Unions shot it down as fast as it came up. They are actively trying not to be recorded.

I completely agree. This is something that would make liability and everything dangerous about the "He said She said" arguments become a  lot safer and easier. But this also makes them more liable when they screw up if they go to the wrong house and shoot someones dog.

They should wear them even then. If a cop is telling you that something happened a certain way and that there is no video or audio to prove it, then they are telling you a lie.

Having respect for the police doesn't necessitate liking or agreeing with them.  "Respect" really gets no respect.
