Well, Facebook has pulled pretty much every nasty trick in the book and people seem to still love using it.

Well... fark me. Haven't done it all *that* often, but once in a great while I've stopped myself from trolling the rubes on my friends list.

Subby, you dumbass.

If you delete a Facebook post, it's gone. That's what the funny looking kid says in the video.
You must work for Friendster or Myspace, scaremongererer.

The difference is that "once it's there" means "as soon as you type it into the box" and not "as soon as you hit Add Comment".

FB sends your comment data to its servers even if you never hit Send. That's what's so nefarious.

Who said anything about loving it? It is merely the easiest way to keep in touch with family and friends scattered across the hemisphere. Frankly I wish I liked the phone more, but I hate it and so do many of them, so 'Facebook' messages and silly posts it is.

Yet another reason I don't use FB. I have a Twitter account, but I haven't kept up on that in months. Friends have bugged me to get a FB so they can keep up with me since I moved. My response has always been "JUST FARKING TEXT OR CALL ME!!!!!", or a farking email.
Almost reminds me that I have a Livejournal that's long been dormant. Does anyone even use LJ anymore?

Don't need to be eloquent, a fool is a fool. Better to be concise.

2013-12-16 05:20:50 AM
So,

Not only does Facebook retain your post even after you've deleted it.

They actively capture your text input on the post box, (calling it metadata) in real time, probably every so many seconds or so, as you are typing it out.
Even retaining what you have deleted in the post box, prior to actually posting it yet.

Capturing every keystroke, uses next to nothing toward your bandwidth.
And requires next to nothing for Facebook's metadata storage servers for that matter.
Text files are tiny.

That is pretty much what a keylogger is, only built into Facebook's post box.

Glad I gave Facebook up back in 2010.

I avoid that trap by posting all of the rants.

Let's have some fun with an analogy for poor Jay:
Some people really think abstinence is the appropriate method, most of us just know to play it safe and have fun.  Abstinence folk always tryin' to lump the smart ones in with the dumb ones that go around flinging babbies and STDs to the wind though.

The condoms of facebook:
Turn off the app platform, don't post details in public places, learn what the damn privacy settings are and how to restrict that shiat, turn off the damn app platform.  Turn off the damn app platform.

2013-12-16 05:28:54 AM
Meanwhile, now I feel pretty dirty for trying to white knight facebook, and this story about purposely harvested unpublished typing into text boxes is kind of creepy.

2013-12-16 05:31:06 AM
not a big suprise , with NoScript on the page won't even load and even with temporarily allowing, things still don't work right using Pale Moon/Firefox.

timujin: Am I the only one who think it looks like that guy's ears are attached upside down?

LOL. I've heard the same thing said about this guy:

clarimdiario.com.br

Oded Fehr. On the IMDB discussion threads, some have taken to calling him "Mr. Upside-Down Ears".

2013-12-16 05:31:44 AM
I remember about 15 years ago or so, on CSPAN, house reps were asking questions trying to get an idea of how long stuff on the net lasts, before it's deleted. Even then, it was painful to watch. You think nowadays, cops and whoever else gives a search order, they just roll over on it. should that be any surprise in todays' world?

2013-12-16 05:33:33 AM
Has anyone mentioned the ears yet?

Upsidedown ear man doesn't know what meta-data is; this is not meta-data, this is data.

They're also talking about implementing mouse-tracking, to track where your cursor goes and what mouse-overs you might be interested in, but don't click.

But again, Fark has assured me again and again that advertising has no effect on anyone's decisions for spending or voting, so all of this money spent to research and control mass numbers of people around the world will be completely wasted.
