HeadLever: Rapmaster2000: I'm not sure what makes a gun range luxurious.

This one offers free machine gun rental on your B-day, free gun storage, free sight in service, free gun cleaning *under review*, free personal instructions, etc.

Plus having an indoor gun range with a 100-yd rifle range is nice.

I could use a place like that. Minus the someone shooting themself with my gun part.

/need to get my AR15 sighted in. It's off by a mile and I couldn't hit paper when I took it to the range last week.

2013-12-15 07:44:58 PM

gopher321: It calls itself the nation's largest indoor shooting range, and includes luxury features for members.

e.g. Personal masturbatory rooms for the higher class of gun fetishist

For guys with a .45 peener?

Yeah, but when the minimum annual fee is $250, might as well get you a good bore sight and head off to the public range.

Rapmaster2000: They opened a "luxury" gun range near my office.  I'm not sure what makes a gun range luxurious.

Silver bullets.

wildcardjack: I have it on good authority that Cheyney travels the country killing hobos. He finds them, cleans them up, dresses them nice, and releases them on the edge of town with $80 to start a new life. Then he shoots them in the head.

Well yeah. That's where he got his heart--he harvested it himself. Then the rush was so addicting that he just kept on doing it.

Impressive.  Customers are known to fark up occasionally but this is the first time I've heard of the actual people running the place self-inflicting injury via stupid.

I picked up one of those laser boresighter doohickies at Gander Mountain for $30. It shapped like a 223 casing and goes in the chamber. I'm going to give it a try this week. Not sure how well it will do but hopefully at least get me hitting the target. Last week was a waste of time at the range. I was turning the knobs on the scope randomly hoping to at least get on paper.

Bah! Silver is for commoners. Real connoisseurs use platinum.

Unless you're dealing with vampires.

There has to be a way of keeping guns away from idiots.  Maybe the club could be a little more selective about who they hire?

2013-12-15 08:05:32 PM
What, a registered Democrat shot the place up?

2013-12-15 08:06:24 PM

base935: Interesting how some reporter writes in the paper that the employee was "cleaning" a gun for a customer, and everyone imagines some idiot with a full 33rd magazine inserted, looking down the muzzle.

Who is "everyone"? And how do you know what they imagine?

Yeah, that can be frustrating. Bore sighters are typically pretty good at getting you on paper at 100 yrds, but there are always exceptions.

I had to chase a broken scope all over the place once.  Not fun when you are just wasting ammo.

El Pachuco: kqc7011: Sounds like someone does not know the difference between Clearing and Cleaning.
Two very different operations.
A hangfire is always a possibility when clearing after the primer has been struck and the round does not go off.
But one should never cover anything with the muzzle at any time.
However sometimes one will when clearing a round and there is no way around it.

31 years using guns, , pistols, rifles, shktguns, automatic weapons. Thousands of rounds, brand new, reloads, military surplus, stuff stored for decades...

...and never one single hang fire. I've been waiting, and it's always a hard primer or weak strike.

This guy was dicking around and dropped hammer on a live chamber, end of story, end of excuses.

From the Dallas Morning News, "while trying to clear a jam on a customer's gun at the indoor range "

wildcardjack: Frisco is mostly Californians, so it's not representative of Texas.  Srsly, it's where they put the first In-N-Out when they came to town. It was packed open to close for weeks.

I lived there when Texas' first In-N-Out opened; it was in Allen not Frisco.  And yes, it took SWAT teams to manage drive-thru traffic during opening week.  I had to wait a month before scoring some of that greasy goodness.

Frisco was a virtual overnight popup suburb built around a giant new mall when credit was easy and mortgages fell from the sky, all located 15 miles north of North Dallas.  Most residents are not Californians, but rather existing Metroplexites just upgrading to big new shiny.

kqc7011: El Pachuco:

Wonder if we will ever see (if they have it) the security tape to show what actually went on.

2013-12-15 08:17:18 PM
An old college friend of mine who went full Tea-Bircher after having kids and moving to the suburbs was at that range yesterday. She was posting pics of herself and the other soccer moms plinking off rounds from the "Lady" model 9mms and .40 calibers their husbands bought them. So I am really getting a kick...

/I'll be sure to give them hell tomorrow, they're probably working on a surly drunk post Cowpokes vs. Cheesemongers game right now.

Something about minimum wage attracting the best and the brightest is probably involved as well.

2013-12-15 08:19:14 PM

mongbiohazard: jaytkay: Is this the thread where all the responsible gun owners high five themselves after they tell us the REAL way to handle a gun?

I don't know about any "high fiving" but as you alluded to there IS a correct way to handle a gun just as there are correct ways to handle a knife, hammer, chemicals or anything else. Basic safe handling practices which, IMHO, everyone should be taught in school whether they ever plan to own a gun or not. And practice number one is: never, ever, ever point a gun at something that you don't want getting shot - even if the gun is "empty" ("empty" guns fire the deadliest bullets).

In the mid 1980s Missouri, us boys had gun safety lessons for the week or so that the girls had their "Your body and you" classes. One of the few things that educators in the south ever did correctly IMO.

Benevolent Misanthrope: BSABSVR: Those can't be predictable. Fark assures me that people are never shot at gun clubs.

Also I hate the passive voice there. The gun didn't just up and discharge. The employee was trying to clean a loaded gun.

Doubtful.  "Luxury" gun club, first night open, new employees.  Probably more like, "OH WOW, dood, cool gun, can I see it?  Thanks.  Mannn... how much did you pay for this??  Man, this gun is Bad... ASS.  I've been thinking to get one, ya know, I'm a real fan of th"<BANG>

.

Knowing how awesome the media is at reporting about guns, I bet he didn't even "shoot" his hand. One of the articles indicated a grazing wound on the employee's palm. He was probably close to racking the slide to clear a no-fire when it finally went off. The front/rear sight probably cut a nice groove in his palm.

2013-12-15 08:35:32 PM
Seriously any one working in a gunshop or club should have to take gun safety classes and any one wanting to buy a gun should have to as well, complete the course get a card good for 5 years, it can be renewed after taking a refresher course.  Person wanting to buy a gun pays for the class, employer pays for an employee to be trained.

The seems more plausible. The first thing you do when cleaning a gun is unload the goddamn thing.

The headline serves as a reminder that if you ever make physical contact with a firearm at any time in your life then either you or someone you love will, inevitably, be shot whether intentionally or negligently.

It's predictable that the next mass shooter will be left leaning.

The debate club failure didn't even achieve mass shooter success and they are scrubbing his political ideologies from articles.

When I had a 30-06 and would have a misfire I would always feel uneasy pulling the bolt back to eject the unspent bullet.
In the back of my mind I would expect the worst. (Not sure of the likelihood of anything actually happening, though).

Benevolent Misanthrope: Marcus Aurelius: He clearly fails at step 1 of picking up a weapon.

THIS.

Even if he was a "20-year experienced range safety officer who had worked at other ranges and served in the military", he obviously didn't know what he was doing.  Never, ever point the business end of a gun toward anything but a safe target.  Ever.  I don't care if its mag is lying on the bench and the breech is open, with a range flag in place.

NEVER.

And for Cthulhu's sake, keep your goddamn booger-hook off the bang-switch.

"And for Cthulhu's sake, keep your goddamn booger-hook off the bang-switch."

Farking hilarious..thanks for that.
