Those can't be predictable. Fark assures me that people are never shot at gun clubs.

Also I hate the passive voice there. The gun didn't just up and discharge. The employee was trying to clean a loaded gun.

As I mentioned in the other gun thread about upping the standards for a gun license.........................

Step one: Drop magazine / eject rounds from cylinder.
Step two: Clear chamber.
Step three: Double- and triple-check clear chamber.
Step four: NOW proceed with cleaning.

According to this, the employee was attempting to clear a jammed gun when it fired..

Doubtful.  "Luxury" gun club, first night open, new employees.  Probably more like, "OH WOW, dood, cool gun, can I see it?  Thanks.  Mannn... how much did you pay for this??  Man, this gun is Bad... ASS.  I've been thinking to get one, ya know, I'm a real fan of th"<BANG>

"Johnson said the injured employee was a 20-year experienced range safety officer who had worked at other ranges and served in the military. He's "someone who knows what he's doing, just to try to help a customer, and the gun accidentally discharged," Johnson said. "

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with this.

It calls itself the nation's largest indoor shooting range, and includes luxury features for members.

e.g. Personal masturbatory rooms for the higher class of gun fetishist

THIS.

Even if he was a "20-year experienced range safety officer who had worked at other ranges and served in the military", he obviously didn't know what he was doing.  Never, ever point the business end of a gun toward anything but a safe target.  Ever.  I don't care if its mag is lying on the bench and the breech is open, with a range flag in place.

NEVER.

And for Cthulhu's sake, keep your goddamn booger-hook off the bang-switch.

Frisco is mostly Californians, so it's not representative of Texas.

Srsly, it's where they put the first In-N-Out when they came to town. It was packed open to close for weeks.

Predictable? Do a majority of gun club openings feature accidental shootings?

No, the employees shoot themselves so you don't have to. Worth every penny, IMO.

Is this the thread where all the responsible gun owners high five themselves after they tell us the REAL way to handle a gun?

Cleaning comes AFTER clearing.
Who cleans a loaded weapon?
OK, but one less, now.

I wonder if somebody like Cheney could pay enough at a club like this to shoot an employee non lethally for kicks and they would keep it secret.

They opened a "luxury" gun range near my office.  I'm not sure what makes a gun range luxurious.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge. Only a negligent discharge.

Gotta admit, since it was not suicide, it was not the ideally effective application of the handgun.

I have it on good authority that Cheyney travels the country killing hobos. He finds them, cleans them up, dresses them nice, and releases them on the edge of town with $80 to start a new life. Then he shoots them in the head.

2013-12-15 07:00:25 PM
Accidents happen. But as with most gun accidents, there was probably a lapse in situational awareness from the gun handler. ALWAYS point the gun downrange when clearing a jam.

Yup. As a shooter, I'm always amazed at how cavalier people will treat these objects. I don't know if it's a matter of being around them so much that you get too comfortable or just everyday dumbassery.

Myself, I'm borderline obsessive-compulsive when handling guns. You have to respect them. But then, I drive the streets everyday and see people who shouldn't be behind the wheel. I guess shiats gonna happen.

2013-12-15 07:02:18 PM
An employee was cleaning a gun for a patron when it discharged, wounding the employee in the hand.

There are so many things wrong with this, I don't even know where to begin.

That's just what everyone says when they unintentionally discharge a weapon. It is physically impossible to discharge a weapon while cleaning it. For one, you have to eject the mag and clear the chamber first. Then, you check 3 times to see that there isn't a round in the chamber. Then, you should partially dissemble the gun in question. At no time in this process should you reintroduce the mag.

/ I hate when idiots handle guns; because, it makes non idiots look bad

I laugh when gun nuts accidentally shoot each other, because they are all stupid cowards; and the fewer stupid cowards in the world, the better.

jaytkay: Is this the thread where all the responsible gun owners high five themselves after they tell us the REAL way to handle a gun?

I don't know about any "high fiving" but as you alluded to there IS a correct way to handle a gun just as there are correct ways to handle a knife, hammer, chemicals or anything else. Basic safe handling practices which, IMHO, everyone should be taught in school whether they ever plan to own a gun or not. And practice number one is: never, ever, ever point a gun at something that you don't want getting shot - even if the gun is "empty" ("empty" guns fire the deadliest bullets).

the anti-gun derpers would like to give you gun-nuts a hand... that is, after they finish finding all the bits and pieces for you.

This would never happen if more people had more guns.

Sounds like someone does not know the difference between Clearing and Cleaning.
Two very different operations.
A hangfire is always a possibility when clearing after the primer has been struck and the round does not go off.
But one should never cover anything with the muzzle at any time.
However sometimes one will when clearing a round and there is no way around it.

Interesting how some reporter writes in the paper that the employee was "cleaning" a gun for a customer, and everyone imagines some idiot with a full 33rd magazine inserted, looking down the muzzle.

/Still no excuse even if he was clearing a misfire.

This one offers free machine gun rental on your B-day, free gun storage, free sight in service, free gun cleaning *under review*, free personal instructions, etc.

Plus having an indoor gun range with a 100-yd rifle range is nice.

31 years using guns, , pistols, rifles, shktguns, automatic weapons. Thousands of rounds, brand new, reloads, military surplus, stuff stored for decades...

...and never one single hang fire. I've been waiting, and it's always a hard primer or weak strike.

This guy was dicking around and dropped hammer on a live chamber, end of story, end of excuses.
