What insightful reporting.

2013-12-15 12:46:50 PM
To be fair, he screamed out a "Your Momma" joke aimed at the ref then spit on him.

I think.

Cockpunch-needing referee needs a cockpunch.

Stupid ref is stupid.

Maybe he used the n word?

2013-12-15 12:50:38 PM
I watched the game. He yelled something obscene at the crowd. Refs frown on that.

Remember NCAA refs are not good enough for the NBA. Let that sink in.

Am I the only one who read that as "Throwing down a vicious drunk"?  And then had to contemplate which coach or ref subby meant?

2013-12-15 12:52:55 PM
If you go through the video frame by frame you can clearly see he whips his penis out after the dunk.

I hope the tag is for the fact that this is even news.

No, just the first strike.
He has to do it 2 more times for the home run.

It looks ridiculous based on that video alone, but he may have yelled something obscene at the crowd.  Pretty sure the rules allow for a technical to be called in that case.

I understand basketball, I just don't care about it.

"Oh awesome! He made a huge dunk on four guys and put his team within one point of tying the game!"  (Even though it was the second quarter, so who cares.)

"I can't believe they gave him a technical!"
(Which probably had minimal effect on the final outcome of the game)

The only real reason to be into individual scoring records is for a Fantasy League, which is just as lame as LARPing.

Now, professional curling, that's where it's at.

All I'm asking is why it was mainpaged. It's a 30 second clip of a questionable foul call based upon some kid soaring through the air like a bird, devoid of context. Did he fumble? Did he touch the soccerball with his hands?
I mean, it's not even the NFL, just college level. For crying out loud, I'm gonna cast a magic missile at it.

2013-12-15 01:23:30 PM
The announcers say he 'let out a primal scream'...so, let's just assume he didn't yell anything obscene, but he did yell.

It's unsportsmanlike and lots of sports, particularly NCAA sports have rules on what is and isn't acceptable.  Unsportsmanlike conduct results in a technical foul - and that's what this guy got, a technical foul.  It would seem that the referee felt that his scream was in violation of the rules.  Also, the NCAA has been cracking down on behavior that they feel portrays sports in a negative light - including inappropriate celebrating.

I know there are similar rules in, at least some, of the major professional sports; so it's not like it's a college only thing.

The dunk is the most boring play in modern major sports.

2013-12-15 01:37:51 PM
I didn't see the game but primal screams could be construed as taunting, it depends on the ref and what has already occurred in the game. If warning had been given, how much crap has already gone on, etc.

Ok, return to your outrage from watching a 20 sec clip. Nasty dunk though.

And as for the story, the player may have been taunting but the ref seemed to have a thin skin about it because he called that really quick that I couldn't tell if the player did something.

Should have been called for palming it before the drive.

Isn't the technical foul, that he touched the ball after the basket.

That was a technical when I played.     From what I see in the video, that is why the whistle is blown.   As soon as the ref saw him make contact after the basket... the whistle sounds.   As it should.  iirc

Nice catch... he taps the ball away after it is through the hoop.

I think it was taunting, but could have been that. That is hardly ever called unless he batted the ball into the stands or something.

Either way, if the author were worth a shiat he would have mentioned the reason for the technical.  Not everyone is cut out for Sports Illustrated, Bleacher Report needs writers too.

Touching the ball after the basket, along with hanging onto the rim too long, is considered "taunting" and are considered technical fouls no matter the national ranking of the team. It is supposedly a CYA gesture by the NCAA to force "maturity" on the players and to foster "respective" behavior for those who go professional. It's obviously hit and miss.

Also, eat a salad for referencing to Slashdot. That don't make you edgy. It makes you look elitist and fat.

Ya see, back before some marketing focus group came up with the brilliant slogan "Real News. Real Funny." (preceded by the short lived "We don't make news, we mock it.") , Fark's tagline was "It's not news, it's Fark.com"

/or something

Watched the game too. Hell of a dunk.

But if you watch more context, you'll notice that Cuonzo Martin, Tennessee's coach, isn't pissed with the refs about the foul. That right there tells me he did do something.

And on a more general note, that Wichita State team is scary.

Wasn't looking to be edgy or elitist by referencing Slashdot. Slashdot is elitist? Okay. I was pointing out how shiatty their forums are because they get sidetracked by the smallest insignificant stuff. Kind of like you making a big deal about a Slashdot reference.
