(Fox 2 St. Louis)   UPS comes up with creative places to leave packages when you aren't home, but perhaps the trashcan on garbage day isn't the best idea. Bonus: UPS denies any responsibility   (fox2now.com) divider line 143

UPS left a clearly marked 40" television, computer, and furniture sitting right on my street when I got home. Thank god I live on a dead end with only one other house.

Shipper release is only good for some things.

I've had three packages stolen from my front porch within the last two months. This includes the guitar I bought my son for Christmas. I just hope that I will be able to get the replacement package in time

They should have gone with the tried and true, guaranteed to keep your stuff safe, "stick everything under the door mat" technique.

I've never had a bad experience with FedEx or USPS.

I have had multiple "rip my hair out because of frustration" bad experiences with UPS.

I think UPS keeps delivering my packages to an unknown, honest but lazy neighbor. Tracking shows the package was delivered on Monday? It shows up on my porch Thursday.

There is no way in hell that I have UPS or FedEx leave packages where I live. Too many crackheads. Plus, my building has no doorbell, so receiving a package can be a whole day event waiting down-stairs for the driver to arrive.

2013-12-15 01:14:56 PM
I saved for months to get that for my daughter.

This is why poor people stay poor.  They buy stuff they don't need and can't afford.

It was a Android tablet, so not much lost

2013-12-15 01:15:18 PM
We had a bunch of packages come missing with UPS.  The driver marked that they were delivered.  The driver would then put the packages in her car.  She was eventually caught.

2013-12-15 01:15:56 PM
That's why I have my stuff delivered to my office. The delivery driver goes there every day anyway, so he knows where it is, and it comes inside locked doors.

Though I suppose if I bought anything too huge, I would ask a friend with a pickup to help me get it home.

2013-12-15 01:17:38 PM
The nice thing about using a PO box is that I get mail from services I can trust like the USPS and the Royal Mail, and it forces companies to use them for shipping instead of UPS. Nothing lost yet, and they deliver to the box on Saturdays. Plus Royal Mail clears customs fairly quickly.

Did I miss the part where UPS denied responsibility?

2013-12-15 01:19:34 PM
Jesus, I love how UPS used the opportunity to plug a bunch of useless business ads instead of saying "hey, you know what? in the trashcan is a retarded place to put it."

2013-12-15 01:19:51 PM
UPS almost never delivers the packages right. I keep getting packages for the 536 house down the road when my house number clearly has 530. My packages get delievered, but arent on my porch (I'm at home all day so I never miss deliverys), and then a few hours later a neighbor or someone from across town will bring it over.
I don't think UPS even tries.

2013-12-15 01:19:58 PM
Usually, anything that comes for me gets put between the front door and the storm door; that way it isn't visible from the street. Plus, I live across the street from 2 old guys who have nothing better to do all day then shout at children for getting on their lawns and call the cops to complain about all this god-damn hippidy hop music! Grumpy old guy security is the best!

2013-12-15 01:20:51 PM
~~Also, shippers always have the option of selecting our Signature Required Service (There is a surcharge of approximately $3.00 for this service)

Oh you wanted to GET your package?  That costs extra.

2013-12-15 01:20:59 PM
Something fishy about this story.

UPS wouldn't drop a package into a full trash can just for the "don't make the customer dig this out of the garbage" aspect, and if the trash can was empty, it's already been picked up and they aren't going to come by again and take it out another time.

I hope you have an alternate spot for them to deliver it to.

Also, for those who have neighbors with sticky fingers - move.  This isn't the norm, and do you really want to live around people who would rob you?

Why do companies insist on shipping with them? Nearly everyone in Canada has a burning hatred for UPS.

But that reminds me of the stories my husband tells me about when he worked at a used CD/DVD/game store and dudes would come in, buy a used porn DVD, then come back an hour later to sell it back. Ewww.

My DIAF experiences have been with FedEx, mostly with replacement cellphones.  The nearest FedEx location is 30-45 minutes from my place, and of course they deliver at 1:32pm when there's no friggen way you'd be able to get home from work to meet them, and no way of knowing when they'd be there.  Then, by the time you find out, it's 5:30 and there's no way to get to the distribution center before closing.  Plan to wait another 24-48hrs for a replacement phone...

I've since learned I have to write a detailed note on the door telling them to leave it on the stoop.  I don't live in the ghetto so it's never been a problem.

Forget it. The kind of person who'd make the kind of "scintillating" insight he just did isn't interested in reason, only in feeding their superiority complex.

Saving is bad.
Layaway is bad.
Credit cards are bad.

Only buy non-essential items if you're rich enough to pay cash right away.

Thems the rules!

Unless things went very wrong; I'm not seeing how the box or disk would rate an "eww" on the nasty-o-meter. I could see a "dude, really?". We're talking about used DVDs, not used sex dolls.

UPS is union and FedEx ground drivers are "self employed" or work for the contractor that owns the truck and route.

/I always have my shipments delivered to where I am during the day-the shipping and receiving dept at work FFS!

That's the risk you take when you buy used porn disks. But, that's not any different than renting VHS tapes from the seedy movie rental place down the street. (Shows how old I am)

/ Plus, I figure they sanitize the boxes and such.

A little Xmas present I ordered from a freind was shipped by Neiman Marcus via FedEx.  They claim they left it by the garage on Friday, on the tracking info page.

I have no garage.

Never had a problem with the UPS guy. FedEx though is another problem. a drunk driver took out my mailbox one night, and before I got my replacement that afternoon FedEx had stopped by. I got home to a package with a note stating: "Put house numbers on!" next to the post where my mailbox had been.

My Fedex CSB: $5000+ charge because the data entry person messed up the account number of some stranger shipping a ton of stuff around the world.

They took about a week to get the money back into my account.

grrrr... this thread grinds my gears, I have been so frikken frustrated with UPS lately. How can a package be on a truck for delivery for A WEEK?!

And I can practically see the distribution center from my apartment. It's infuriating.

2013-12-15 01:41:35 PM
I hate UPS with a passion, but lately FedEx has irritated me. My new Radeon card should have arrived yesterday, but the package hasn't been scanned in four days now. I called today and the lady was nice and as helpful as possible, but all she can do today is make a note of it to pass on to the distribution center tomorrow, as they are closed today.

I have a sneaking suspicion the FedEx freight driver is sitting at home playing WoW with my card right now.

Um...<checks profile>...nope. I'm not your lazy but honest neighbor.

In my defense, it's mostly due to procrastinating.  I keep the package near the door until I work up the nerve to actually bring it to the right house. Usually under the cover of darkness because why not?

2013-12-15 01:44:23 PM
How fast did that turn into an ad for UPS's extended service option (which by the way is garbage, in my experience)

From The Comments:

Tracey Sole
UPS has apologized to me. The package was placed in the trash can. The trash can was empty when the package was put in there, because I could not get my trash up my driveway on the ice. I guess he thought the empty trash can meant that they had already picked up. UPS is going to be getting a new tablet for my daughter... before Christmas! Thanks to all the people who offered to get her a tablet or money for one. While I refused all offers, I would like to suggest that your donations be made to toys for tots! When I say "I saved for months," I mean I have a Christmas savings account. I put $30-$40 a month into the account so that when Christmas comes, I can splurge on my daughter and my son! I also, take some of the money and have my kids pick out toys to donate. I am fortunate to work for an amazing company, and I am able to support my kids just fine. The idea was not to get money, it was to get UPS's attention so I am able to get the tablet that ordered and make things right. UPS is doing just that, and everyone that I have spoke to since has been wonderful! I am going to request that this driver, though he has made a huge mistake, not be terminated from his employment. I know I am not an HR employee of UPS, but maybe my opinion will matter. I appreciate Fox 2 helping me with this matter. I also appreciate that UPS is doing what they can to make it right! Merry Christmas everyone!

2013-12-15 01:47:00 PM
When my kids were little, my parents used to send chocolates to them on Valentines's Day. The UPS guy once tossed it over the fence... into the dog run. Fortunately, the dogs didn't find it, I found them later when I got home and was picking up poop.
