This is how the dome ends, not with a bang but a pssssssss.

Much like its namesake, who also ran out of hot air in January

Yep, me!  And I'd attach a rocket to the 1991 World Series trophy and simultaneously launch it towards Atlanta as I destroy the Chetrodome.

/nope, will never get over it

That's a shame, positive pressure supported domes are pretty cool.  The RCA Dome (old Colts stadium) was a very neat place.

I wonder if it will sound like a *sigh* as it deflates?

As long as the Eagles win there tomorrow, I don't really give a shiat what becomes of the place

Like a Christian Ponder middle of the field pass?

Much like the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it will slowly collapse, like a flan in a cupboard.

I'm imagining it sounding like the effect in Ren & Stimpy. You know the one.

How are they going to play in the Gophers' stadium for two years?  Wasn't it basically a last resort for the game they played there in 2011? (It's not built to be used in Minneapolis Decembers, as the Gophers would typically be done well before most of the brunt of winter)

Anybody have the film footage of the Metrodome roof swaying during a game because of the wind?

Question:  Does the University of Minnesota field now have the heating coils so it won't freeze solid as was the concern when the Vikings played there when the roof collapsed? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5926661

It's sister stadium in Vancouver had a much more entertaining (and quicker) demise.

Yes. Ziggy is putting up $4.5m to have the UoM field re-done, including heat coils.

come on...slap a jiffy pop logo on the roof and blow it up.

then give out popcorn to all the residents.

I don't know subby. I have seen plenty of implosions there and they were all spectacular.

I had the same question.  I heard that the field was like concrete when they played there last.  It was actually that field that ended favre's career.

It should go without saying, yet can't be noted enough, that the Vikings are paying less than half of the cost of a new stadium that will do wonders for the value of the team. Minnesota is paying $348 million, and Minneapolis will chip in $150 million by raising taxes.

And public will be pay for cost overruns. Which should amount to about $1 billion more.

I wonder how much in NFL cable revenue Minnesota and Minneapolis get.

I figured the DOme was near its end when the roof collapsed in 2010. Can't wait to see the new stadium.

Best description of the Metrodome by author Bob Wood:
"It looks like what's left of the Michelin Man at his open-casket funeral."

Been there for baseball and football. Lousy sightlines for baseball, so-so for football and when you leave it, the air pressure almost blows you off your feet. I took my 60-year-old mother to a game there and she was knocked off her feet, but managed to land upright.

Actually, demolition off the Astrodome started last week.. they blew up the ramps, but yeah, it just sat there for over a decade.

The NFL divides TV revenue equally amongst all teams.

I was at the game in 85 or 86 when a storm system went right over the Metrodome.

The Twins had a 9 or 10 run lead against the Indians when the storm hit. The lights started swaying, the field was cleared, we all thought we were gonna die!

When things calmed down, the Twins sent out a washed up Ron Davis, and he proceeded to give up 12 runs or so, and the crowd went home disappointed...

Good times... Good times...
