I can't imagine that Fox News is pushing too hard for Puerto Rico statehood, since it would almost certainly add 2 Democratic Senators and 5 Representatives (its population is just over CT's, and just under OK's, and both of those states have 5 representatives) to Congress, due to the effectiveness of the Republican Party's outreach to Latinos.

Not that they want statehood anyways.

Critics in the medical community said the move could prove to be a disaster, considering the U.S. territory is already deemed as the "Next Detroit" and "America's Greece."

Wow, FOX's concern trolling is nothing if not derivative.

"Is there anything Obamacare can't do?"

Apparently it can't stop FOXNews from blaming everything on Obamacare.  It's the gift that keeps on giving.

When it's Fox News, do we really even care what the article says? We KNOW it's gonna be "OBAMA BAD"

We're just bored of it at this point.

If some crazy guy stands up in the middle of a crowded room and starts rambling about how the aliens are going to destroy the world soon, no one is going to start talking about whether aliens are actually about to destroy the world.  They're going to talk about how crazy that guy is.

Fox News is that crazy guy.

Considering they have the credibility of The Enquirer, are classified as "infotainment" and have a long history of propaganda, deception and outright lies who would care what they say? Chances are it's just more lies and propaganda to feed to the willfully blind. Take yourself for instance.

I don't really care whether Puerto Rico goes with independence or statehood- both have their advantages and disadvantages- but they should be forced to choose on or the other. A straight-up vote with only those two options. Perpetual territorial status may be justified for territories with very small populations, but it shouldn't be used for as large a population as PR.

Um. Why? Just because it has a large population doesn't mean it needs statehood status.

in 2012, Puerto Rico held a referendum on statehood, which passed.

the statehood question now falls to Congress.

/it took over a decade for Congress to approve Alaskan statehood

According to the article, the US giving Puerto Rico approx. $1 billion to spend on their already existing publicly-funded health care system is going to drive them into bankruptcy?

Am I reading that right?

Or, is it the other $5 billion being given to them that's going to bankrupt them?

Interestingly, that only came about because Alaska- at the time perceived to be Democratic would-be state- was paired with Hawaii- at the time perceived to be a Republican would-be state.

PR is not overwhelmingly Democratic, actually. The two major parties there don't have clear and unambiguous affiliations with the Republican or Democratic parties, and the GOP is actually more affiliated with the statehood cause. But still, the state probably would lean Democratic in House, Senate, and Presidential elections, and there's no real option to balance it out. Oddly though, that hasn't stopped the national GOP from being officially supportive of PR statehood. The Governor even spoke at one of the recent RNCs.

There's more truth to this than you realize. The GOP's "Latino Outreach" is going to fail in ways they can't comprehend, because they clump "Latino" into one large chunk.

Mexicans, Cubanos, and Puertorriqueños are three distinct groups, with three distinct sets of important issues, and those three groups represent the vast majority of Latinos in the US.

Previous articles have indicated that.  His kids aren't the shiatheads he is but they'll willing to be shiatheads to stay in the will.  Problem is, even pretending to be a shiathead, if you do it long enough the habits stay.  Really hard to say if they'll change the direction of the shiatheadiness when he kicks off.
