So an organization that is against corporate takeover of the government is funded by companies and still sticks to its principles? I'm trying to find the problem with this.

2013-12-14 01:47:37 PM
This is the right's favorite kind of fight - the one where they invent an absurd and simplistic narrative (liberals hate all business) and then argue against that lie.

2013-12-14 03:39:28 PM
Holy crap, Microsoft, Apple AND Google are in on the conspiracy? My computer is a dirty commie?

Its a problem because reasons. And socialism. And Hitler.

Have you ever noticed that there's no such thing as just a plain liberal? They're all far-left-wing extremist radical liberals.

Powerline?

I'm not touching that....

I like how the author is trying to spin Think Progress as a wackadoodle website which leads me to believe that the author is a corporation-loving conservative. And now he's proving that it's corporations fueling all this wackadoodle stuff.

WHO FUNDS THE FAR LEFT? YOU'LL BE SURPRISED

I bet I won't

*reads article*

Wow, no big surprise at all.  It's almost as if companies are playing both sides to control the message.

Who funds the far left?  Companies that stand to make a lot of money off of fascism

Nice

I'm guessing that that TP inevitably supports regulations that inevitably shields players who are already established from newcomers judging from the donor list.

2013-12-14 06:33:36 PM
I'm pretty sure that progressive organizations are less anti-corporation and more anti-"corporations should be allowed to do what they want including crush your small business, take away your health care as it lacks sufficient profitability, and foreclose on your house due to a technicality we added after you signed the contract".

Planning to eliminate food stamps, on the other hand, is patently anti-poor.

2013-12-14 06:34:49 PM
This is just a classic case of Bootleggers and Baptists... Corporations using pro-regulation politicians to choke out smaller/upstart competition.

Koch's business model is to deregulate and expand. Think Progress's model is to enact barriers and defend your turf.

WHAT?! Corporations play both sides?!

Let the butthurt flow through you.

What's hilarious is one time this guy was talking to me about how gays deserve rights and I later found out he wasn't even gay.  Hell, another time someone called me on behalf of some racial equality campaign...there was something weird about his voice. He wasn't saying "where's my MF'ing ice tea!" So I asked him what race he was and yep, he said white. LOL! The left are such hypocrites. Now let's all go back to that...building thingy...where our beds and TV!, is.

Nah. Mostly about biatches eating crackers.

Written by hack left-wing bloggers, it is bitterly hostile to free enterprise.

A guy who thinks there's a "far left" in American politics also thinks "believing in regulation of industry and making sure they pay their taxes" = "bitterly hostile anti capitalist" is apparently surprised to find that both parties have corporate backers?

Yeah, that kinda follows, sadly. Any other gems from the suckblog?

Koch Industries stands alone, as far as I know, as a relatively large company that actually supports free enterprise as a matter of principle.

A Koch Brothers apologist/cheerleader?

Well, that was two minutes of my life I aint getting back.

*shakes fist vigorously*

The Center for American Progress is a left-wing organization that is closely associated with the Obama administration. Its principal product is a web site called Think Progress. Think Progress is part of the internet cesspool that modern liberalism has become. Written by hack left-wing bloggers, it is bitterly hostile to free enterprise ...

Not fascism. Just government favoritism towards established, private, moneyed interests under the guise of protecting the public.

I still enjoy the notion of a "Liberal Attack Machine" looking like a Roomba with a cat on top of it.

In real life they are rarely organized enough to get the cat on the Roomba or make it stay for any length of time.

They rely on people using technology to make their money. That means they need at least curious, if not intelligent, customers to be in the enthusiast class of customers to test out the top teir and pay the premium price to fund research and development. This let's them make pure profit on the mainstream products and even pass on a lower cost to make the items ubiquitous.

Most of the conservative movement currently is trying to reduce educational levels of the populace because they use fear and anger as motivators to get votes. Fear and anger require a certain level of ignorance for them to work.

Wonder how most of these people did in school...

Incidentally, Coca Cola has also been a contributor to ALEC (and I suspect a number of other companies on the list are too).  So this is just a case of large companies hedging their bets.

You know I always assume when people project obviously false narratives of the political opposition they are doing it for deliberate, rhetorical reasons. I guess now I know there are some morons that actually believe their own nonsense, and think it is a slam dunk attack on the opposition pointing out the glaring flaws in their own idiocy.

Also, an ignorant populace is easier to swindle. Look how many poorer people are cheering for the Republicans to kill the minimum wage; the uneducated are more likely to vote against their best interests, and there are a lot of corporations that would like nothing more than a permanent underclass they can exploit.

Is... is this a joke?

Can I be only moderately hostile to business interests as liberal? Like, they can use child slaves but I would insist that each kid's workstation is OSHA compliant?

That was pretty much just a list of unsubstantiated accusations and non sequiturs: For instance, he states "CAP says that individuals and foundations account for more than 90% of its funding, and corporations only around 6%."  He then gives a list of the corporations which, presumably, provide 6% of Think Progress's funding. If he's claiming those corporations provide much more of the funding than 6%, he never explicitly says so. What was his point again? The sucky blog post essentially consists of a long list of "citation needed" cartoons.
