This has to be a prank.

While it may not be an Onion article.  I give great props to the authoress.  That took a great deal of skill and technique.

I was going to say that as long as it compiles and fits the specs, meh, use whatever you want.

But it looks like they have bigger problems than that.

Did you miss where it isn't a compiled language?

I think we all missed that part.

I'd say that's clearly a prank, but I still have a twinge of doubt. What's the feminist version of Poe's Law?

Does it have objects? Because objectifying is strictly disallowed.

Yes I did.  But it looks to be back now so all is good.

The guys behind this will spend hours creating the website and are already a few bucks in the hole with purchasing a domain. And for what?

http://feministsoftwarefoundation.org/

There's a term for workers who are constantly complaining about encroaching feminism in their industry.  They're called "people who suck at their jobs."

Id rate this as slightly more productive than languages like Whitespace or the Klingon-based programming language.

There are just some nerds with too much find on their hands.

They do, in my experience, tend to suck at their jobs though. They spend too much time trying to build whatever esoteric fad is a hit on all the blogs hey read , so they leave behind a trail of shiatty in maintainable/inconsistent code.

Every 28 days, your program will refuse to run the way it was designed. Instead, it will consume huge amounts of system resources and display error messages indicating user error for doing the exact same thing that works for the rest of the time.

Yeah. That reads like a Misogynist coders idea of what a feminist would write.

Yes, but how susceptible is it to buffer overflow errors?

From their bitbucket page: Note: This is a programming language written by and for FEMINISTS, not WOMEN. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE, YOU MISOGYNIST!

2013-12-14 01:55:51 PM

Dinki: Yeah. That reads like a Misogynist coders idea of what a feminist would write.

You're spot on. For example (also from their bitbucket page):

On 1s and 0s

The traditional binary foundation of 1s and 0s is deeply problematic: 1 is inherently phallic and thus misogynistic. Also, some 1s are 0s, and some 0s are 1s. It is not fair to give them immutable labels. Instead, we have 0s and Os as our fundamental binary logic gates. They symbolise/-ize the varying, natural, and beautiful differences of the female vaginal opening.

0 is to take the conventional value of 0.

O is 50% of the time 0, and 50% of the time 1. The determination of this depends on how the underlying logic feels at the moment.

Maybe no one told them that after Gracie Hopper invented COBOL, all women were banned from creating proramming languages.

And for good reason.

I'm supposed to like women coders more because of COBOL?

15% of the time, the output is nothing but memory leaks.  Come to think of it, I wouldn't trust any logic from their programs anyway.

Someone needs a /root.

2013-12-14 04:00:58 PM
I guess I found it a little scary anyone thought this might have been real.  I know that some people who call themselves feminists have some ideas that approach this in terms of ridiculousness, but they're different ideas.

I mean, come on.

printf() becomes yell()

I can imagine some 20-year-old feminists writing something like "yelling is unfairly characterized as brash and witless by a patriarchy that marginalizes expression of emotion, therefore women should embrace yelling" when she has ten finals and can't think of anything else to write for her college newspaper article.  But no one who calls themselves a feminist would seriously suggest replacing printf with yell.

/article was kind of stupid as a whole, but had some funny one-liners

Great! More fodder for Rebecca Watson to attack men who don't conform to her worldview rather than actually doing something, y'know, actually feminist.

There's Onion funny, there's Annals of Improbable Research funny, and then there's "male freshman who's not getting laid" funny.  This is firmly in the third camp.

Somewhere between whoopie cushion and Beavis and Butthead.

Hah!

That was a good lampooning of internet feminism.

Yes, by 4Chan.

GitHub didn't like something "Targeting" feminists, though there are plenty of offensive, non-PC "projects" out on their site.

It was sparked by this piece of idiocy (which might be a prank, too?)

Might not be... some people see bias in everything that exists, it seems, and demand it be corrected.

I prefer the klingon programming language C/\ - functions do not have parameters, they have arguments.  Programs never run, they execute!

2013-12-14 04:42:10 PM
It's better at multitasking but is always asking for male languages to actually get things done.

oh look a feminist programming language that, just like a feminist can't really do anything, is hard to understand, and even if you start to grasp it, Is annoying as hell to work with no matter what your sex.
