I was in fact looking for an excuse to use my new gif, which I painstakingly shrunk down so you can barely make it out yet still be able to post on Fark.

But to be honest, I always thought that the hot mom was going to eat someone alive. I thought the subplot involving the love triangle with Brody's best friend and her was brilliant.

It would still be cool if she turned out to be an carnivorous alien.

You didn't actually read the article did you, because if you had you would have known it was about the daughter leaving the show and as a side note, the mom would be in it less as well.

I liked their characters and how they provided stark contrast to the main story.

Fine, I might be the only one.

Also they were both nice to look at

On the one hand this is a sad development, not specifically because of Dana (really, really not because of her) but because the Brody family is going to be almost completely irrelevant in the following seasons.  Pretty much the entire first two seasons were gripping and awesome because of the whole intrigue/suspense thing relating to Brody and anyone around him.  Now the show is going in a completely different direction.

I will say it makes sense.  Even my rather impressive ability to suspend disbelief would be stretched to the breaking point if Brody somehow managed to get ass-deep in yet another mess of international espionage, assassination, and intrigue.  Unfortunately I think the show is going to lose quite a bit of its appeal.  Carrie alone cannot carry that show.

There's an alternate universe in which Brody blows himself up at the end of the first season and Homeland becomes an emotional family drama about what it's like to live in the wake of a terrorist act committed by a family member.  I would really like to visit that universe.

And Carrie could carry the show if she wasn't so terrible at her job.

Let me guess...Dana would try to kill herself and probably run off with some guy who is bad news, then become a hotel maid. Mom would look worried a lot and occasionally call the guy she dumped in favor of the terrorist. Chris would play video games.

I think we've already seen that plotline and I don't want any more of it.

If they get rid of Brody, and apparently people posting in here say they are, then they better bring in someone else as a main character.  I dont think Mandy can carry the show all by himself and Claire Danes character is awful.  I've never wanted to see a main character die as much as her.  I'll probably have to stop watching it if this happens.

Neither of them need to be on the show anymore, Brody is dead.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my alternate universe, Homeland has competent writers who actually know what to do with Dana and Chris.

Though I actually kind of liked the Dana stuff this season, before she ran off with what's his face.

I think the alternate reality I'd like to visit is the one where they don't unmask Brody as a traitor in the middle of Season 2 and the show instead takes a bit longer playing up the "is he on our side or their side" angle for a while longer.  Because, really, once you resolve that definitively and give Brody nothing else to flee from for fight for, the show's over.  You can try to call it Homeland, but it's not the same show anymore: a significant part of your chemistry just freakin' left.  I'm not saying the "Saul, Carrie, and Quinn variety hour" isn't going to be entertaining, potentially gripping and quite possibly amazing, but it's not Homeland.  Not unless Carrie falls in love with ANOTHER possibly reformed terrorist who she wants to protect at the same time as she is desperately trying to stick him to the wall for crimes against the nation.  Which, again, suspension of disbelief has a limit.

Oh yeah, that would have changed things a lot. Poor Chris. No one will ever know about his inner turmoil, being the only son of the most wanted man in America. But he can probably kick all our asses in Call of Duty.

Brody is out, Saul is probably out, Carrie still in, Quinn is a 50/50 shot, and virtually any other character we've come to know over the past three seasons has a less than 50% chance of showing up in any significant role for the next season at least, if not the future of the show in its entirety.

At best we're going to get Carrie, Quinn, Saul, a smattering of existing minor characters in infrequent appearances, and mostly a bunch of new people.  Completely different show.

Did you know he's actually a main cast member?  Like, his name is in the opening credits and everything.  Has any regular character had fewer lines in a show ever?

I mean, there was an episode this season where Jessica and Dana were fighting and Chris is just standing there in the background, right behind Jessica, in the shot, but saying nothing, like the showrunners think if he doesn't say anything then they don't have to pay him for that episode or something.  It's the strangest thing.

The whole series exists to delve into home grown terrorism. If Brody goes it'll just be a so-so spy thriller.

Probably right after that alternate universe story about the wife of a chemistry teacher whose husband died of cancer, then discovers her husband's notes of meth, and teams up with her sister to produce blue meth for the entire SouthWest.

I just can't believe he wound up in jail and then started having that same stupid conversation from the very first episode about how the top button really makes a shirt.

I was hoping Brody was going to turn for the Iranians, it would have made next season a lot more interesting.   I've been wavering back and forth on this series all season and unless they come up with some horrific violence or fabulous new titties to replace Morena, I think i'm out.

I'm simply wondering what the writers think anyone's going to tune in for at this point.
