I just had an argument with someone on Facebook about this.  Should Kanye compare himself to a police officer or combat soldier?  No, of course not.  Does he put his life in danger?  Absolutely.  John Lennon and Rebecca Schaeffer were shot and killed by stalkers.  George Harrison was stabbed.  Princess Diana was chased into a tunnel by paparazzi and died in a car crash.  People act insane around celebrities.

This time he got chief Sitting Bull.

I am sorry but standing in front of a crowd of people is not the same as standing on the front line or kicking down the door of a meth den.

Kanye whores himself out for the fame, and any "danger" he gets he is responsible for.

But are those events merely statistical flukes?  As a whole, do celebrities have a higher mortality rate than the average person?  How much of that is attributable to self-destructive behavior common with celebs, such as rampant drug use, as opposed to external factors?

Celebrities no more put their lives at risk than you do when you go shopping at the mall. In fact you are probably in much more danger. You listed 3 celebs who were killed by stalkers, 5 non-celebs were killed on Black Friday. And how many have been killed by robbers and crazies shooting up malls? Kanye is a dumbass attention whore, nothing more.

Yes, but those people were talented and generally liked. Who would want to get famous for killing these two? At most you'd get a jail sentence and a parade or two in your honor.

I haven't heard much of Kanye's music, but I did check out Bound 2. If that's what passes for good production, flow, and rhymes these days then the best selling hip-hop artist of the current generation is the best marketer of all time. It's on par with selling canned feces at the same price as gold.

This guy certainly isn't known for portraying context appropriately but I think the bold part meant that his family is like that of a cop's or soldier's family in that they are always afraid for their safety like his is afraid for him.  I don't honestly think he is comparing his work to what cops do but the risk of his work and the toll on his family.  And yeah it was really poorly said and analogized, that's a given.  The cop certainly couldn't see this as the intent.  But it's cute that he wanted a piece of the attention.  His popularity must have gone to his head.  I mean, he must feel like he's a famous rapper with all those followers.

You are literally the only person who sees it that way.  To everyone else, he compared his job to that of the police/military.  Either way, it's still not an accurate comparison...at all.

well, the comparison is that 2 sets of families both worry for their safety because the job is risky and in a basic way is accurate enough but he did a terrible job conveying that.  stalkers and crazy people actually do kill entertainers but not nearly as often as druggies and gang members kill cops or soldiers dying in combat.  he just should have conveyed those risks in a form other than analogy.

Let's see.  Kanye started his career in 1990.

Since 1990, 25 Los Angeles police officers have been killed while on duty.

24 rappers have been murdered since 1980. Not many have been killed onstage, though.

2,274 American military personnel have died in Afghanistan.

Now, the question is--why hasn't anyone stepped up and shot Kanye?
