I'm pretty sure a news organization that stops to assure kids that Jesus is white is damaging it's own credibility.  Though I think it makes sense for Media matters to go after smaller targets.  The crap that bubbles up from the right-wing fever swamps doesn't start at Fox News.

2013-12-13 11:56:18 AM
I always like to take credit for things I had nothing to do with.

The average Fox viewer could give less than fifty shiats that anything they watch even remotely has a basis in reality.

Most 'conservative' types can't cope with a reality that is different than the one they imagine is how America should be, so their days are filled with disgust and impotent rage about all the things that are actively contributing to the downfall of their version of reality.

Fox just fuels and amplifies that, facts be damned, so their viewers can feel validated.

Seems Media Matters is over their fixation with Fox News and is spreading out to cover other political opinion outlets and Spanish language TV, probably to continue their mission of smoothing the way for another Hillary Clinton presidential run.

There are studies that support this.  I think Fox News viewers have been shown to be less informed than people who subscribe to no news sources at all.

The problem is that Fox has been discredited to anyone that can think critically.  So Media Matters keeps producing the evidence that debunks claims but no one is listening at all.  The smart people don't need more proof and the dumb won't accept it.

Fox NEVER HAD any credibility and it didn't seem to bother them much.

Exactly.  My daughter loves to watch the Disney Channel, no matter how much I tell her that mice don't talk or wear gloves.

My FIL is one of these.

Anything he sees on FoxNews is absolutely true. Why yes he is in his mid-80's why do you ask?

I was going to say this, but you said it much better than I possibly could have. I can't watch Fox for 2 minutes without some sort of mental B.S. alarm going off as that tripe travels through my boards.

FOX is not now and never has been in the credibility business.

They are simply the the largest weapon in the GOP's 24/7 propaganda arsenal.

2013-12-13 12:36:54 PM
Oh, great. So now we get a decade of guerilla-style insurgency where Fox News goes to MM's green zone and reads derp around innocent bystanders. And a SURGE! MM can't stand down until the Foxers stand up. MM won't embolden our enemies by cutting staff and running stories.

Until the SOFA agreement kicks in, and David Brock finally gets to take a nap on the office futon.

2013-12-13 12:37:31 PM
Like Fox News viewers would give two shiats about facts. One of their top "newscasters" could shoot up a grammar school, and Fox would spin it into something positive for them to fill the trough with

Sorry, Media Matters.  Faux News' credibility was destroyed by - Faux News.  Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdock, c'mon down and collect your prize!

fta our success regarding Fox News means that our talented team will carry out our mission in different ways consistent with a new strategic vision responsive to the transforming media environment.

Yes, Fox has been discredited and Media Matters gets a large portion of the credit. But the problem is that Media Matters is ahead of the curve. If you're too far ahead of the curve you risk becoming irrelevant. It's probably best to continue beating Fox News like a rented mule.

fta Fox News isn't going to stop lying, so we'll stay on that beat.

I see. Very good. Carry on.

That was surely Fox's finest moment.

The one thing that bothers me still, is that Turdblossom seemed so sure that 'the fix was in' in Ohio. Makes me wonder what kind of scumfarkery was really going on behind the scenes.

And that discrediting has done what?  Knocked them from their reign of Most Potatulated Retarded Craptastic News Network Ever.... watched by more "people" than MSNBC or CNN?

No.

Discrediting is fine for a moral victory and morale victory.  But until morons on the right actually start giving a sh*t about the truth rather than what they want to hear, it means nothing.

2013-12-13 01:09:54 PM
Yeah... how about no.

If anything, Media Matters has been one of the few things legitimizing Fox News by taking it seriously enough to bother mounting an opposition fueled by real effort.

The discrediting was pretty much just done by Fox itself, with a bit of help from various comedy shows that used it for the easy "what's the deal with airline food" type of gags when they ran out of real material.

2013-12-13 01:10:26 PM
Fox News is tabloid news.

I tried watching it a bit while I was on the road, and well.... it may as well be the National Enquirer.
