I use my Yahoo e-mail.  It's good to use for essentially everything except for my resume, which I use one of my gmail accounts for.

I use Yahoo mail when registering for web sites that are likely to sell my address to whomever wants it. Like FARK, for example.

I love my Yahoo account, I've had it since 1998. You don't think I'm giving Amazon, Fark, or my family my real account, do you?

I haven't used mine since it was compromised. So now it just sits there, gathering spam, techtarget entreaties, and messages from people who didn't bother to read my migration notice. I can't remember the password, so it's toast.

Gaambit: Apparently everyone has a junk mail account now to give to stores or online companies. This time of year, I'm sure the outage is pissing people off who are trying to place orders or track packages.

Seems like no one really uses Gmail for this, though...

There are apparently plenty of gals with the same name as me who like to use my gmail addy as their spam addy. I get tons of account emails, package tracking emails, etc. Plenty of info that would let me steal their identities and/or reroute their shipments to my own address. But no, I just email the sender back and tell them to call their client on the phone because the email addy is not theirs.

Use a real spam addy that you own. Don't just make one up. It might belong to a real person.

/I'm honest like that.
//Though I still almost regret not rerouting that new MacBook to my house instead.
///And not signing that one chick's kid up for Calculus and Mandarin Chinese at her private school.

Mad Morf: I can't elaborate on how I know this, but the way their email systems are architected, this outage couldn't have effected more than a couple hundred thousand users and no where near the whole 270M+ user base...So, not that big of a story...

Based on Marissa Mayer's comments, it seems like it's affecting 1% of mail users, so you were off by a factor of ten. That means somewhere around 2.8 million accounts, which jibes with the sort of impact that I've seen.

/Works for a company that was affected by the outage
//hence the alt login
///Please don't punish me, modmins
