The only fee I'd love to see is "High potential of annoying everyone else", ie people sporting babbies.

So you have to pay more to fly in a season where demand is concentrated? Oh myyyyy.

you wait to the last you pay dearly. nothing new.

Oh look, a USA Today article so we can have a third graders report on airline costs.

Nothing to do with the American Airlines merger.  Not a little bit.  (repeat 10,000 to self in order to believe)

I'd like to see the 'I'm too cheap to check a bag' fee. As the idiot business flyer tries to squeeze that oversize bag into the luggage compartment of an Embraer. I'd also like the 'Business Complainer' fee for those same a$$hole$ that biatch when the flight attendant insists it's game over, check the f**king bag.

Finally, I'd like the 'Self-righteous A$$' fee to people complaining about people flying with babies.

/don't have babies anymore
//if we didn't fly, our kids never would have seen one set of grandparents
///plenty of more annoying people
////especially fat Americans

Oh, one more fee: the 'I'm an American' fee based on poundage and poutrage levels. Airlines would be turning a profit within hours!

I would assume it's cheaper for the airline if you carry on rather than check.

You need an (slow union) employee to handle that checked bag and track it and hurt their back and go on work comp.

Honestly, the only thing that could improve air travel would be greatly increasing ticket prices.

People complain about the airlines and how horrible air travel is, I just don't get it.

Most of the annoyance with air travel is the BS TSA requirements and lines.  Once you're passed security, the rest is really just the annoyance of travel.

Sure a train is more comfortable, but it's usually more expensive and way slower.  Sure a bus/car is less of a hassle, but it's also WAY WAY WAY slower.

What do you want?  You can get 3,000 miles away in 5 hours for under $500 bucks.  That's actually a really awesome deal.

No you don't get to relax on a sofa and get BJs while you wait for the plane to land.  If you want that you go to first class and pay the $5k or whatever..

All of the previous complaints about babies, oversize luggage, fatties, and the like are all going to be fond memories once the whole "making cell phone calls in flight" thing is fully implemented, I fear.

As a business traveler(80%+), I find that most business travelers have their ducks in a row when it comes to flying.  Generally they are better capable of handling when things don't go in their favor as well.

It's the elderly, the overweight and the semi affluent families(no you are not special STFU and sit down) with small children, and the infrequent business traveler(<10%),  who are the cause of most of the slowdowns and problems. The only people in that group that I have any sympathy for are the elderly.

Maybe you should just be more sympathetic towards everybody.

Traveling with small children isn't fun for the parents either.  It's a lot of work, unconfortable, stressful, etc.. but if you know a better, cheaper, and more convenient way of getting to South America from the US, please let me know.

You mean increased demand for a limited number of seats increases prices? YOU DON'T SAY!?

"Increased fuel prices"

Good one, airlines, the price of petroleum has been dropping since early summer.

Why tell the truth - "because we can?"

You make it sound like there's something wrong with charging what you can. Let's imagine this scenario:

You build tables for a living. You can make 20 tables per month, and you have 20 customers per month buying your tables. Then demand, for whatever reason, increases, and you have 25 customers per month. Do you tell 5 customers that they'll have to wait or go somewhere else, or do you raise the price until there are only 20 people willing to buy your tables. If you choose Option #1, you're a fool, because I will get in line and buy all of your tables, then re-sell them to the 20 people who are willing to pay more.

Pick: I prefer to drive, but no one that travels with me does.

Is that because you're gassy?
