.The KCNA report described Jang as "despicable human scum" and "worse than a dog," and said he had betrayed his party and leader.

That right there reminds me of the old Soviet media. People compared to dogs, betrayal of party....classic stuff.

God I love the vague, bombastic rhetoric that comes from official North Korean sources, especially sources linked to North Korean courts.

Side note:  I love Japanese and Chinese movies, but the subtitles often have the same weird style and phrasing.  I'd hear read descriptions of characters like, "his scheme to conquer the kingdoms failed due to his weak moral fortitude and many debaucheries," and I'd think there's no way in hell that was translated correctly.  People just don't talk like that.  A few years ago, though, I started dating a girl who spoke Cantonese as fluently as English.  So one day when we were watching some old Kung Fu movie, I started picking out some of the weirdest sounding lines and asking her what they were really saying.  Every time, she said they got the line nearly spot on both literally and in intent.

So apparently, at least in certain contexts, what's being translated is really the message they're trying to communicate to you.  It's not a bad translation, and it's not a racist caricature, that's just what's being said.  Mind:blown.

English is extraordinarily expressive.  Most languages are very boring and lack the variety we have.  The same thing happens when you watch telemundo.  Strip away the colloquialisms in spanish (there are tons) and the language is bland and repetitive.

I think that the part of the Fifth Amendment preventing self-incrimination was specifically written to prevent torture.
Do any of FARK's legal analysts and GD lawmen have insight on this?

It's really the best thing about English, not only that, we go and beat up other languages and steal whats good from them.  Now as a downside any person can just go and invent words in English.

I really doubt that Kim had anything to do with it.  As far as power goes there, I think that he's not much more than a figurehead, and the military is actually the group running the show.  If anything, I think his uncle was executed as a warning that if Kim tries to go against what they want, it could be him next.
