The Wolf of Wall Street is the greatest movie I haven't seen.

American Hustle was actually surprisingly good given the setting and tone. I wouldn't be surprised if it got a lot of nods.

having only seen the ads, is it basically just Boiler Room 2: Boilerer Room, but played for laughs?

My guess is they probably just threw names in a hat and drew for 'Which 4 guys get to lose to Cranston.'

/Although Spader is the only reasons to watch that show.  He is awesome, but the only reason for an hour to be spent on it.

All's I have to say is that Jerrod Leto better win for Dallas Buyer's Club.

Scott Van Pelt played "Boiler Room" for laughs on his radio show on Tuesday.  He was playing random Ben Affleck soundbites from the movie, it was hilarious.

The audience went mad for it at the SAG screening with many saying both Leo and Jonah Hill are brilliant in it. Yes, that Jonah Hill.

I'm just happy that Tatiana Maslany got a nomination, especially after being ignored by both the Emmys and SAG Awards.

Is there any real reason Frozen should lose the Best Animated Feature category?

2013-12-12 10:38:03 AM
Well, at least they got Robert Redford a nomination, unlike the Screen Actors Guild...

/However, admittedly, the GGs divide movies into dramas and musicals/comedies, so there are more slots open.

The Wind Rises

That's in the Best Foreign Language Film category, so we could have two animated winning films this year.

Read an interview with Hill in Playboy. Talk about a motherfarker who was born on 3rd and thought he hit a triple. WTF that kid was born with everything he ever wanted, and whenever he wanted something new, BOOM, there it was. It was nauseating.

Sandra Bullock for Gravity? Really?

I've never heard the word 'gagh' uttered so many times in my life. If that's all it takes...

FlashHarry: rush was awesome. glad it got a nod.

I've often been critical of Ron Howard for taking true stories and pummeling the truth out of them until their resemblance to actual events was thinner than Callista Flockhart two months into a juice cleanse.  Anybody know how Rush did in that regard?

It looks like both Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts are nominated for the same supporting actress category. The last time a source of good fought such a powerful manifestation of pure evil for a coveted prize, Indiana Jones found the Holy Grail. Hopefully the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chooses wisely.

i mean, it's still a hollywood movie... but i'm a huge F1 fan and was a kid during that season (and remember it well), and it made me smile for the entire film. and daniel brühl's performance as lauda is uncanny.

Oh look, a Scorsese movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio.  And it's about Wall Street douchebags.  Oh and Jonah Hill is in it too.  It's like someone went into my brain just to design the movie that I will hate the most.

Hollywood can have some poetic license, Ron Howard goes well beyond that, to the point of flat-out fabrication, so I vowed not to see any more of his films unless they are 1) completely original works, 2) adapted from something fictional, or 3) actually praised for their faithfulness to the true story.

This. Although it makes me happy she's won every award she's been nominated for Orphan Black.

it was written by peter morgan, who has a pretty good track record with historical works (the queen, the damned united, frost/nixon)

Whoa, whoa.  You... you typed that with a straight face, didn't you?  I'm... feeling dizzy.  You actually said that Frost/Nixon was a "pretty good" historical work?  Hang on...  I'm still trying to wrap my head around this.  You thought...  I mean, did you even look up to see what he got wrong and what he got right?  Or did you just assume it was accurate?  Because Frost/Nixon was total bullshiat - the story it told completely undermines the actual events they portray - the shocking climax the movie reaches is something that never happened, and thus the point it made about history is utterly false.

I'm sure there's a whole lot more that can be found on the topic, but Wikipedia has a pretty good summation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frost/Nixon_%28film%29#Dramatic_license _a nd_factual_inaccuracies

But thank you - you've now answered conclusively that I should never, ever ever bother with Rush.

I agree - House of Cards is Spacey's tour de force:  But this past season of BB was just balls out fantastic.  Hell, Cranston's speech to Gunn in 'Ozymandias', when he's basically giving her everything she needs to get off from impending charges, moves flawlessly from grandiose self-love, heartbreak, goodbye, contrition, and pride...and tears at the pitch perfect right moment.

HoC will have it's day...and rightfully should.  But going up against BB in the final season...pretty much just show up and enjoy the show, because no acceptance speeches need to be written.

Hell yes. She's the single best new actress I've seen in a long time. I can't think of another actor or actress with her range. She's one of my favorites already.
