Meh. Still not clicking on a buzzfeed link.

I have no evidence that any of those were 'forever'

I really dislike the "forever home" thing... Can't you just say they're being adopted? Why does it have to be called such a cheesy 'feel good' marketing name?

This. It's even worse than calling them "pet parents" instead of "owners". Needlessly anthropomorphizing animals...

Phew.... I thought "forever home" was a euphemism for "getting put to death".

Couldn't help noticing a few of those dogs would be strangled if the driver had to hit the brakes.

"forever home"

Hey, I have two shelter cats, "forever home" is a stupid phrase.

2013-12-12 05:11:06 AM
Why are none of those dogs strapped in?  Dog seat belts are cheap and less likely to snap necks than a leash tied to something.  Happy dogs though.  Mine was drugged out of her gourd when she came home and walked in circles for hours looking at her reflection in the stove until she slept for 12 hours.

Those were some nice pictures. It's nice to see a buzzfeed link without some stupic commentary with each photo, also.

If you want to define "success" as not having to hang out with people who refer to their pets as their children, I'm all for that.

I once accidentally clicked on one of the BuzzFeed sponsored links when it popped in above the story I wanted to click on. I haven't been to BuzzFeed since, but I still feel guilty that my click may have falsely indicated to Fark that that partnership is a good idea.

I too dislike the term forever home. I also hate rainbow bridge and any other fad animal phrase that's popped up lately. It's dark out but I'm yelling at the clouds anyway.

"Going to their forever homes" just sounds like a bad Engrish translation, and every time I hear "pet parent" I cant help picturing a post menopausal women with no children but many cats. if your life is so devoid of meaning that you have to base your identity over owning a dog, then I think we should be the ones who feel sorry for you.

Why the Buzzfeed hate?

Maybe I'm missing something? It's not a horrible site if you ignore most of the copy (obviously written by 14-year olds). Did they loose a swarm of bees in a small child's face?

Oh, and 'forever home' isn't nearly as vomit inducing as 'fur babies'.

After our previous dog went to the rainbow bridge, we waited a year before we adopted a shelter dog and gave her a forever home.  We like being pet parents and hope that our Lucy will be one of the 'Most Important Mutts' on Buzzfeed in 2014.

Their "forever" homes? That means they are being killed. They are being killed, right? So this is a "dawww" for dogs getting killed?

//Buzzfeed - I wouldn't even click on that with someone elses mouse.

Because dog "seatbelts" fail miserably in tests.  There were a couple of threads about this on FARK in recent history.  If you are interested you can hit the archives.  That said, I also frown upon the dogs leashed by the neck.  Mine is always loose in the backseat.

I mean, I'm all for Drew cashing in. More power to him, and we all have that dream.

But if I hear degrass trolled gravity one more time!!

Me either, but wandering into the middle of a conversation and dropping trow is a pretty heavy indicator of stuned social skills.  But let's face it if we all had those we'd be over at the water cooler talking about last night's duck survivor cake boss episode rather then hanging around some website for alcoholics.

Critters and anaesthesia is a crapshoot. Some just sleep it off, some get silly...had one cat who decided to sing about the birds and bees and just about everything else...in a loud, penetrating Siamese voice. He was perfectly happy, judging by the purring, just really vocal.

Then there was D'Artagnan...he came out of it seriously pissed off. He got so agitated in the hard plastic carrier I had to let him ride loose in the car on the way home- I was afraid he'd hurt himself. He did calm down a bit...he's used to riding free in the car...but the only place he felt secure was standing on my lap...and guess who was driving.
Judging by his reaction, his vision and balance were off...and every now and then gravity would play a trick on him, either increasing or decreasing for just a second without warning.
Stagger, SNARL, HISS ...and he'd glare around for who or whatever was causing this...Bast, FSM, and Ceiling Cat help them if he caught them at it.
Really fun to have around just then....a BIG, muscular, pissed-off house panther...with enormous, well-armed paws, and he'd been taking 'Saber-tooth Cat' lessons when it came to his canines.

I just left him alone for the 8 hours it took to get it all out of his system...and hope he'll never need to be sedated again.

*snert*..chuckle... Bwa ha ha.

I love euphemisms. They lend themselves to hilarity. Employee X was fired: Mgr: 'He's no longer with us.' Me: 'OMG he died!!?' Mgr: sigh 'No we had to let him go.' Me: Why was he being held against his will?' Mgr: 'You want to join him?' Me: 'I'm no carpenter.' Mgr: 'Get the hell back to work.'

/ might explain my job history and the number of ignore lists I'm on

How about the term "rescue animal" being applied to any pet who didn't come from a pet store? That one drives me up the wall.

/Glad to see happy, smiley dogs, though. Too many critters don't get that second chance at a good home.

2013-12-12 08:49:32 AM
I adopted a "double rescue" beagle/hound mix from a group called "Last Hope."  His litter landed in a pound, then he was placed in a home that sent him back for some reason.  He's your "Basic Brown Dog" make and model, and he's been great.  Lots of fun, and very affectionate from the get-go.

Had a few "bad puppy" habits, but those went away quickly enough, with a little training and a little aging.  My hats off to the people who perform this kind of service.

I'm guessing you live somewhere with no-kill shelters.

Our dog's kennel mate was destroyed the day my wife brought him home and he'd been redlisted as non-rehomeable. Having arrived with lye burns, from which he continues to have limited eyesight, and a broken hip, and weighing 10lbs (he's now 17lbs and still lean), it's pretty safe to say he was rescued.
