Contrabulous Flabtraption: What is Spotify?/new to the internet
Barry Lyndon's Annuity Cheque: Contrabulous Flabtraption: What is Spotify?/new to the internetBarring restrictions by country, it lets you listen to any song or album you want at any time and for however many times you want on your computer or phone, which also has radio and other Pandora-like features. Essentially it's a subscription-based music service that is easier than piracy, and that's coming from someone who hasn't bought an album since the late nineties. I'd rather pay monthly for Spotify than waste time hunting and converting albums, which says a lot about how convenient I find it.

thismomentinblackhistory: I always had trouble justifying a music subscription service that costs more than Netflix. I get that you can find literally anything on it, but I like Pandora, at least when you're listening to a station based on a lesser-known band.
mayIFark: The question is can it survive with ad revenue only? Since they took that step, they must have done the calculation, but this seems kinda odd that if it was that easy, no one has tried it before.

styckx: This isn't really free. It's on shuffle mode until you pay.. Might as well just plunk a few albums on my phone
10up: yeah. 9.99 a month is nothing compared to the hourly wage I didn't pay myself to sit and convert albums, or torrent, or burn cds.drtfa? This free version only gives you a "shuffle all from artist" style radio. It is not the full version. I don't think I'll be cancelling my subscription anytime soon. $9.99 a month a a $50 android tablet completely dedicated to Spotify sitting on top of my stereo receiver. Takes two seconds to show people how to search, queue, and play. Everybody's happy.
