That's because people are using the paper applications, the processing of which has created 400 news jobs. 75000 signed up with another 40000  left to process as of 11/29. I'm sure both numbers have gone up since then, but by all means, keep farking that chicken.

Oh, and those are the Medicaid expansion number, not the private insurance numbers

oregon screwed up their online registration system and it got pushed back. they switched back to the paper system to handle it and its working fine (if not as efficient.) once the site is fixed, they will proceed online.

not that complicated, and this information has been known about since early november (when i heard a thing on NPR about it.) not much of a gotcha story

Even regardless of that, it's not like this was an ongoing expenditure of a one-time event. They spent $300 million to set up a system that will be around in perpetuity to allow people to sign up for insurance. It's like seeing the toll collection for the Golden Gate Bridge after the first day and saying "that didn't even come close to paying itself off."

Are you working under the assumption that doctors are currently over-worked and have little extra time for more patients?

If I learned nothing else from clicking on the link, at least now maybe I'll remember that Washington Examiner links aren't worth clicking. Tfa didn't have any useful analysis.

In case no one else has posted it yet while I'm typing this out, here's a link to a piece discussing Oracle's role in the Oregon website farkup. And IIRC the Oregon state government person whose job it was to manage the state website rollout has resigned over this.

What does this have to do with the ACA, exactly?

Did the bill restrict the number of doctors being trained in medical schools in the US for the last few decades?

Or are you implying that it's ok for the poor and those with pre-existing conditions to continue to die with inadequate health care as long as you don't have to wait to see a doctor for your ingrown toenails?

So if I get this straight. you are touting the need to hire  400 people  to process paper forms (how early 20th century and not very green of you) because the website does not work as a positive.

That is sort of like BP saying  our oil well leaked but look at all the jobs created to clean up the oil spill.

Or the Germans saying sure our Zeppelin crashed and burned but look at the jobs created to haul away the wreckage.

2013-12-11 12:18:04 PM
Yes, Oregon's exchange has had a miserable launch. They deliberately tried to make it a system that could sign up people for private health insurance, Medicaid, SNAP, and all other manner of programs the indigent are eligible for, and it blew up in their faces. That doesn't mean health insurance exchanges are destined to be miserable failures for all eternity. And you better not hope they are destined to be miserable failures because it means Paul Ryan's Medicare reforms that almost every Republican in Congress has signed off on cannot possibly work.

I think a better use of the money they are taking from me, as ACA is a tax, would be to pay people to train and work as doctors.  Perhaps even build a clinic or two.  So you know health care w/o 17 hour waiting.

Fun Fact: The number of graduating doctors has been artificially limited by the AMA for a long time now.  It's done so to prevent the average wages for those existing doctors from dropping.

Now, of course, the AMA is predicting a doctor-shortage due to the increased coverage of those Americans now getting Healthcare.

I hadn't thought of that... every single one of these people will now need to immediately go line up at the nearest doctors office for unspecified health care!  Oh no!  I hope they set up the death panels soon!

Because today, nobody gets paid to work as a doctor. There's just no incentive!

I think that's a fair question, actually. If I were the God Of All Healthcare in America, I suppose I'd give some thought to adding more PAs to medical practices. Maybe it'll lighten MDs' workloads while lowering costs.

Chances are this is already in the works. Someone better informed about the healthcare sector than I am might wanna weigh in on this...

Yawn...

Since they are other avenues to getting health insurance the only reliable figure will come at tax time when they can do a count of people who opt for the tax hit rather then get insurance.

If only there were a pool of trained doctors who can make themselves useful instead of catering to healthy people.

Oh, wait...

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) today released their 16th annual multi-specialty procedural statistics. In 2012, over 10 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed by the board certified doctors in the United States who are most likely to perform cosmetic procedures.

I don't care if this is a job creating thing.  Think about it this way.... if we continue you to create more jobs that going to create more taxpayers.... taxpayers pay for welfare programs and entitlements for the LAZY.... there shouldn't be that many jobs out there! I want all these shiftless lazy assholes competing for these small number of jobs.  This competition will ensure that the best person is hired! It will also give incentive for those without jobs to become more marketable and more productive.  It's a win/win.... The less jobs the better!

Why would any doctor become a GP when they can be a specialist and make double the money?  The real problem is that GPs are paid shiat reimbursement by the health insurance companies.

There are a lot more people needed to sign up who will need to pay a whole lot more for their plans. Stories like yours could cause some resentment.
