Dan Aykroyd doesn't seem to have any of the classic symptoms of a spectrum disorder. Then again, when left to his own devices, he wrote and produced "Nothing but Trouble," the worst and most tone deaf "comedy" I have ever seen.

2013-12-11 09:58:31 AM
By all reports Akroyd has turned into an assclown of major proportions and this interview has done nothing to dispell that. I don't doubt that he has some mental issues but I suspect it has more to do with the brain damage from the Mt Everest size pile of coke he did back in the 70's and 80's because only that could explain the atrocity that was Blues Brothers 2000

What's your excuse?

I know someone who is the poster boy for for this as he exhibits every symptom.  You don't need to be a doctor to realize there is something quite different about him when you meet him.  And he has always been this way. It is seriously a problem for him although he is coping.

Whether Ackroyd is an ass or not...???

Plenty of real autistic people out there, and people with dissociative disorders.

And lots of jackasses who use Aspbergers as an excuse for their anti-social twattitude.

My father's family is from the part of PA in which Nothing but Trouble was set, and they all thought it was pretty funny, as it was very isolated an inbred until fairly recently.

As to Aykroyd, there's a lot of obsessiveness in his personality and work.  He's a walking catalog of conspiracy theories and the supernatural; all the references to hauntings in Ghostbusters are real (I was obsessed with ghost stories when I was a kid and surprised to here him tossing off actual cases).  The thing is, he doesn't believe that stuff; he's just obsessed with knowing about it.

He also used to work scary fast, writing screenplays in a couple days (not all produced under his name).  IIRC, Ghostbusters took two weeks, because he took time off in the middle to write another screenplay.

He mentions that he always carries a badge, but that's not the scope of it; he's got thousands of them, probably the largest collection in the world.  And not just the fun ones departments used to gives kids and dignitaries; real badges.

* Hitting on Queen's students
* Being a raging dickbag

Not a fan, having seen him around Kingston a lot in the 90s.

You can biatch & moan about people getting around to defining mental disorders all day and night, but it still doesn't change the fact that the guy who's been part of three incredible (giving him credit for his ToD cameo), several good and quite a few bad movies, who's also an entrepreneur and has more money than you ever will have has a mental disorder.

So what's your excuse?

\from everything I've ever heard about Aspbergers, this makes perfect sense, fwiw

No it's more than that. High sensitivity to energy. Nervous ticks come from taking in too much energy (thoughts and emotions) from others... Gifted at remote viewing...  There's a lot more to it...

I acquired nervous ticks from taking in too much energy.

Oh! Oh! But to quote him: "I'm a wine aficionado."!!   Makes me want to puke.  HE BOUGHT into a winery as a frikking tax-dodge!  (Yeah I am looking at you, Dan.)  And this makes him an aficionado?? WHAT a laugh! Comedy Gold right there!  You ever tasted the swill that this moron endorses?  You'd find out quick why true aficionados spit it on the ground as soon as they taste it.

Oh, and the putting pepper jelly on stuff?  The sole purpose of that is to MASK the flavour of the crap he is stuffing into his cake-hole.

BTW, IF you are reading this Dan, or having someone read it to you?  Let's do Lunch.  Sure, I'll come to your ancestral farm if that's what you need.  Your treat.  Or Toronto.  Your call.
