Why is there a large taco shell hovering over the capitol?

Say what you will about the Jedi purge and the atrocities against Alderaan, Ghorman, and hundreds of other planets, but at least Palpatine ran an efficient government.  Today's right-wingers could take a lesson in how to be productively evil.

Not at all. Even the first Death Star had major cost overruns on its contract, and the second Death Star was kept completely off the books. Military spending, combined with deregulation of the spice trade, would have put the Empire into a major recession within ten years.

The tighter you squeeze, the more systems will slip through your fingers.

How did Arrakis get in there?

Compromise?  In our moment of triumph?  I think you over-estimate their chances.

It's been there since George Lucas renamed it "Kessel" in the first act of the first movie.

/and renamed Baron Harkonnen "Jabba the Hutt," but that's less relevant to the joke

Deescalation of hostilities is the only way thats gonna happen

There is so much anger in this country right now.

Actually, Palpatine created a Tea-Party-like culture of fear where valuable veterans were retired and replaced mid-action over slights, the incentive structure for helping along genuine progress was flawed, and the lynchpin of his strategy entailed exploiting "dark-side leanings" from a so-called moderate average joe (Luke) who had already thoroughly rejected the core of his party's platform despite his message-packaging efforts. Taken together, it helped drive his administration into the ground.

Wow, that's actually much more similar than I thought...

if you folks making star trek jokes are any indication we are well and truly farked. despite the tea baggers thinking any law is bad law there is a congress entrusted by the founding fathers to make law. and not just naming everything in sight for reagan.

Hey Politico: If you're going to do long-form, do it right, and don't paginate.

Well, this will take voters actually putting in representatives that are about doing the job right...and not just positioning themselves.

Ones that look in the mirror...and don't say, I look good,
but think, what can I do to make the nation better and protect our citizens.

Do you think you could wait to mangle a sentence until you at least get to the second paragraph? F*cking "journalists" these days can't write for sh*t.

How do you suggest we do that?

russlar: Hey Politico: If you're going to do long-form, do it right, and don't paginate.

Normally I'd agree, but if you're presenting multiple articles which are each written by a different person, then pagination is fine.

Where is "undo gerrymandering with non-partisan redistricting commissions so that the congress more represents the will of the people."?

I really don't know how to subside the anger.

The only thing that I can think of that would start the process would be some sort of mega deal. Something like a 1% federal sales tax in which 50% of all monies collected will be given to SS and Medicare while the other 50% is given to NASA. Conservatives really love NASA very much so. Its the only government branch in which they think should be kept while many others go the wayside as unconstitutional

"...Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Ill.)..."

Uhh, pretty sure we didn't build that... somebody else made that happen.

Congress doesnt get anything done because there is a shiat ton of money to be made not getting shiat done.

shiat needs done?

1) lobbies employ lobbyists to persuade congress to their side.
2) both sides lobbyists grease same congress critters campaigns to promote their viewpoints
3) nothing gets done.
4) repeat.
5) Profit.

Right after "invasion and occupation by coalition of world's armed forces".
