Maybe if they had been back to back but there was that whole 8 year gap...

I kind of agree with the article.  I don't think the American people are quite ready yet for sensible economic policy.  Things will probably have to get worse first.  Just don't let them get so bad that people like Elizabeth Warren are unable to get past the gate keepers and actually run for public office.  The public would already be ready if the Horatio Alger myth wasn't still believed by so many people and they would educate themselves about class mobility in first world nations.

And they are billing themselves as centrist Democrats. I doubt it's either. The board is made up of investment bankers. You know, the guys who tanked the economy but somehow came out richer than ever. It's not like they would have a vested interest in redistributing money upwards.

And ironically, if you average out the political spectrum worldwide "centrist Democrats" would be part of the progressive wing of the party since they're already right of center.

These are just socially liberal oligarchs.

How bad must it get before we can tax the rich? They have been doing there all to dodge that bullet since 1916. And then came Saint 666.

Bad enough that a majority of Americans wake up to the fact that they've been getting farked without so much as a "by your leave, sir" for the last several decades.  Luckily with the continuing Bush tax cuts and congress' express desire to fix a revenue problem by cutting spending, I'd say we'll see the pendulum start to swing the other way by about 2020.  Especially as the US begins to see it's role in the world decline due to lack of infrastructure and responsible government.  If Europe didn't have the albatross of Greece, Italy and Spain around it's neck I think the EU would already be looked at as the primary superpower.

Since Democrats run from Alan "Papa Progressive" Grayson to Mary "Wait, There's a 'D' After My Name?!" Landrieu, they might actually be "centrist", so long as the "center" is defined as "far enough away from either extreme".

It's not an arithmetic mean or median by any stretch.

The truth is worse. The current bundle of idiots in Washington saved the Bush tax cuts from automatically expiring (If we let them expire as scheduled it's the FISCAL CLIFF!!!), then immediately turned around to start cutting entitlements.

Under the thrall of the Plutocrats is a pretty good description of what we've got.

Gore was the obvious candidate 2000 was his to lose.  He made the moral choice to distance himself from Clinton, a man he didn't like.

Kerry was a pragmatic choice (they should have gone with Dean) to win middle of the roaders, who went down in the worst smear campaign since the 19th century.

Whenever I see the name of Third Way, all I can think of is that they're big fans of Mussolini. This does not impress me with their political savvy.

Dean was an actual progressive who raised the majority of his money from individuals and not the plutocrats.

There was no way they were going to let him stand.
