A 21-year old has memoirs? Of what? Oh, drugs and puking.

Fascinating.

She is right, it IS tough to go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine, once you've started doing cocaine.

I've heard time and time again about Demi Lovato's struggles with cocaine and eating disorders, yet I can't remember her ever looking much different than she does now. Don't people with bulimia and cocaine problems usually end up looking skinny and gaunt? I've only seen pictures throughout her career where she looks as she does now, kinda round-faced and pudgy but not in bad shape, or slightly heavier after she also revealed herself to be a cutter.

Yeah, yeah, I don't want to hear about the drinking and the drugging.....c'mon Demi, tell us about the poor sexual choices you made while you were high and drunk.

Oh STFU you coont.

Like you "caught" cocaine addiction. You weren't a crack baby.
So sick of addicts abusing this word, it insults people with real conditions and sicknesses.

She recalled "going to the airport" with "a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka" at only "nine in the morning," as the moment she looked at herself and decided it was time to get help

More bullshiat. She farking escaped to rehab to avoid assault charges after punching out a friend /backup dancer on a plane.

Yeah, those damn schizophrenics just hear voices for the awesome drugs that completely sap your will to live.

Some of addiction is poor impulse control and coping mechanisms, but there is absolutely a genetic component. The fact that many addicts are abuse survivors doesn't help, either.

In summation, thanks for the excellent, well thought-out analysis, Dr. Armchair.

If you aren't doing coke, you aren't a coke addict.

I'm sorry the addiction fairy touched you or whatever.  It's, currently, a medically recognized disease. And has been for, you know, 50 years or so.

Does that mean it's not a major business? Nope. Rehabs and MADD make sick money off of it. Does that mean every person who you deem to drink too much is an alcoholic? Nope. Everyone with a DUI? Nope.  Everyone who drinks hard and heavy? Not even that.

But don't bother doing any research.  Just keep shiatting on those mean addicts. I'm sure they'll get the message some day if you just hate them hard enough!

"I'm very, very good at manipulating people and that was something that I did in my disease, I would manipulate everyone around me. There were times I would just continue to lie, so that everything looked OK on the outside," the X Factor judge told AH's Kit Hoover. Lovato went on to describe how her lying turned into deception and conniving, going on to describe some of the times she would go to whatever lengths necessary to have things her way in her wild teenage years.

A little full of yourself dear? No you weren't manipulating anybody or hiding what you were doing from anybody. Those people you thought you were fooling weren't fooled, they knew exactly what you were doing, and you didn't manipulate them, they let you have what you wanted because they didn't care about you. All they cared about is that you gave them what they wanted, so if they had to let you fill your nose with coke, or let you have what you wanted so you would shut up and work, they didn't care. You weren't that important to them because once you burned out they had a pick of hundreds of other "sweethearts" to fill your place.

These type of people will never be well until they realize this. She still has the self entitled attitude that got her into trouble. It shows by her insistence that she is somehow smarter than everybody because she is deluded into think she was pulling the wool over every bodies eyes for so long and manipulating them.

They still make money off of it. When the money train stops, you'll bet that it will no longer be considered a "disease".

Drug addiction is a brain disease.  Do some reading and thinking before you do any more commenting on this subject.  Some of us have lived through this, have first-hand experience with it, have had our lives touched by it, and to us you sound like a farking idiot, no different than if you told cancer survivors that they didn't have a "real disease".  If you don't understand why it's a disease, that's on you, not on the medical or scientific community.  Learn and understand, then comment.

I'm addicted to potato chips. I guess I'm "diseased" then.
Meth and other drugs, like cocaine, can addict pretty much anyone. It's a HUMAN CONDITION. Not a disease.
Eating too much ice cream and high-calorie foods usually makes one fat. Again, that's just the way the body responds. It's not a farking disease.

That was my point actually. You're being almost willfully intentionally ignorant. This is an issue that has deeply effected my life so throwing out things like that make me defensive. I apologize for being so aggressive.

You honestly DO need to do the reading and see why it's classes as a brain/body disease. There are actual physiological differences in addicts vs normal. There is a distinction between someone who does something 'too much' and becomes physically addicted, vs an 'addict'.

Typically the push pally addicted person will, after detox, etc, be able to drink like a normal person OR be able to not drink.

Once an alcoholic drinks, it sets off a physical, chemistry based, chain reaction in their body. They do not process alcohol 'correctly' and produce a series of very interesting chemicals in their guts and brains which normal people don't.
