Humm,..a series based on a 2 hour movie that left no room for a sequel?  Could be the next MASH, I guess.

I suggest Tampa.

/Nice climate with plenty of monkeys nearby.

Isn't 12 Monkeys a loop? Unless you're just going to use the movie for a plot skeleton I don't see how this would work.

The tag sorta spoils it.

Not the film, no but I hear if you get enough you can make one with the game.

In the film, they complete their objective without altering the past.   The story arc concludes - probably one of the best time travel movies there evah was (oh now I've started it)

Won't they have to clean up the place to make it look post-apocalyptic?

Isn't going to matter.

If it's being written by the guy who wrote Terra Nova, then it'll be about the kids of the lead actors and all the zany shenanigans they get into.

Memphis. It's Detroit with better weather.

I would choose a different idea than a 20-yr old movie with an open and shut ending.

More like a series based on a 2 hour movie based on a 28 minute movie that had a tenth of a second of moving images.

At that rate of expansion the remake of the series will be ten seasons long of 2 hour episodes.

Winnipeg. It's Detroit with a reduced risk of your crew and your craft table getting got.

Also, Canadian film/TV production credits!!

Yes, but who can spank 12 monkeys?

2013-12-10 09:33:11 PM
This sounds stupid and I have no interest in it-

FTA: IMDB.com also lists Emmy winner Zeljko Ivanek ("Damages") as a co-star.

Ok, I'll watch.

/he's my favorite "that guy."

I liked the movie, I guess if they base it loosely on the same world it could be cool.

I keep seeing press that SyFy is developing new space based shows, but so far nothing on TV, it's more than a bit frustrating.

There was a nice run for a while with Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, Stargate SG1 and Atlantic, BSG, Firefly, and I'm sure some others I'm forgetting, but it's been famine since.

I'd say Englewood in Chicago would have made a good pick. If they woulda got to it before it got tore down, Robert Taylor Homes right before the demolition would have been perfect.

Yes, let's take great post-apocalyptic movies and turn them into really shiatty American TV series.

I also nominate:

- The Road
- Mad Max
- 28 Days Later
- Threads
- On the Beach

It's funny; when you were a kid, you sort of remember an adult who was vaguely familiar typing those exact words on some internet message board.

Eirik: Won't they have to clean up the place to make it look post-apocalyptic?

They did when they filmed certain locations here.  They had to have the police chase the homeless out of the Ridgway Library (used as the dept store interior) when they shot there, but it's now one of our performing arts high schools.

And you couldn't pay me to go into the Metropolitan Opera, though there's apparently still 12 Monkey graffiti there, as the whole thing should have caved in 30 years ago.

/really, the city is so much better-off and better-looking than when the film was shot here.
//You can say the same thing about Trading Places.

There is the theory of the Moebius, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop. Loop where time becomes a. A loop where time becomes....

Wouldn't it be neat if Detroit's economy had a booming resurgence due to its prominence as a post-apocalyptic filming location?  The whole city would gentrify while taking great care to still outwardly look like a wasteland.

I was about to ask "what Terry Gilliam film would everyone most like to see a TV show spinoff of?" I say spinoff because his movies have a habit of radically changing the situation of the main character or world by the end of the flick. Honestly I can see myself enjoying a Doctor Parnassus series, with the conceit of a constantly changing lead actor (think Doctor Who but each one only lasting a single story arc or less.)

Also, The Zero Theorem looks interesting; haven't heard about it until just now, but a Gilliam film being called the spiritual successor to Brazil and 12 Monkeys is exciting.

I've seen Zero Theorem. It definitely feels like a return to Brazil, both in look and theme.

I think the best thing to come out of news of this TV show is that it reminded me I haven't watched Twelve Monkeys in about a decade and now I must do all I can to rectify this mistake.

/saw it in the theater when it it first came out

Is SyFy going to drop Continuum now or air two shows with the same plot?

God dammit, every time I forget that they're making this show, an article pops up about it.
