I'd bet $100 that, two seconds before that photo was snapped, she just squeezed a fart into that stinky spandex uniform.

Not too surprising since there has been a history of costume problems with Star Trek franchises. ST:OS had issues with the boots they originally ordered. They didn't fit properly and tended to cause blisters. And of course, the whole OS thing with hiding/covering up belly buttons.

For some reason Roddenberry had really farked up ideas of what a uniform should be made off and how it should fit. No seams, single piece of material and as colourful as possible and comfort and practicality be damned.

The thing that really bothered me about TNG uniforms was that Picard and Number Two always, always, ALWAYS pulled down at the bottom of their shirt thing every single time they got up from their chair.

It's the 24th century. Buy some garters or something for God's sake.

Yet another reason this engineer's favorite Trek is the first movie. The uniforms made sense. When you're living/working in a completely controlled climate environment in a starship, all you really need is pajamas with some biosensors/comm installed.

Trek II and follow has fancy costumes, STNG had the goofy, obviously uncomfortable spandex, constantly having to pull them down every time you got up from sitting, etc.

STTMP was a well thought out extrapolation of how you would actually and logically carry out starship operations.

Actually, by the time they started puling the tunic down every time they got up, the uniforms were wool. The spandex uniforms were one piece.

To make the uniforms they used replicators which are just fancy 3D printers, which makes sense on a starship.

Except for one thing, and the two latest movies went even further to bug me on The One Thing.

The ship goes to battle stations and not one farking person on the ship dons any protective equipment whatsoever. No bulkhead doors close off compartments. No repair lockers man up. It's as though those wingwipers in the Air Force took over starships instead of the valiant and wise dudes in the Navy.

Ironic since one of the reasons why the uniforms were dumped in favor of a new design was because the actors hated them. They required the assistance of another person to put on or take off. Even going to the toilet required assistance.[1] I'm sure some tweaks could have been made for them to be more functional. Maybe something more like what they had on the first season of Space: 1999.

I was SOOO glad when they redesigned the uniforms for season 3-7, but I think these were the best Starfleet uniforms:

It's as though those wingwipers in the Air Force took over starships instead of the valiant and wise dudes in the Navy.

STMP did have some of that. When they called battlestations on approach to V'Ger, there was a scene showing a division door closing in main engineering, as a crewman slipped through the closing doors.

And the engineering staff did wear what looked like slightly hardened radiation protection suits in the engineering spaces.

STTMP was a well thought out extrapolation of how you would actually and logically carry out starship operations.

This just adds further evidence aside from coming up with the core elements of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry was absolutely horrible with running Trek and should have just been limited to the guy who came up with the concept and let other producers handle the show. Season 1 TNG really was a steaming pile in many ways and it's a miracle that the Paramount suits allowed a second season to be greened.

The shows only got better once Gene's health started to fail and people like Rick Berman and Ronald Moore assumed duties.

I tried to get Roddenberry and Lucas to fight each other to the death but they could never settle on bat'leth or arg'garoks for the duel.

I was just planning on shooting the winner with my glock....

I'll always be grateful to Gene for establishing the spirit and premise of Trek, mainly that mankind would solve its problems and have a wonderful future.

But yeah, the 1st TNG season was a bit trite with it's story lines, but it did get way better as it went along.

But what I thought was a priceless opportunity thrown away was Enterprise. They could have had INCREDIBLE dramas showing how the Federation learned it's lessons as it went out and encountered other species. Episodes showing how they screwed up entire societies with their interventions could have shown over time how they figured out the need for the Prime Directive.

You can buy the TMP Uniforms for your characters in the Star Trek Online game. Nice thing about them is that with a little bit of tweaking at the game's tailoring system, they can look pretty similar to Nu Trek Admiral outfits too.
