I don't want to be "that guy," but how on earth can mall-barbeque be any good at all? :\

I'd like to make a joke about theft, blacks, and barbeque. But I'm taking the high road today.

But you sir, are a lazy scumbag. I wish you the wrath of the Lord.

I do all my Christmas shopping at the Gunpoint Mall. The customer service there is really courteous.

That's what I would do. Ribs are awesome.

No, it's OK.
I'll buy "that guy" a beer.
Legit query.

I went to the mall for the first time in years. The food court has six different Chinese food places literally right next to each other. All of them were giving out samples trying to steal the customers lined up at the others. It was odd.

No ribs though. I'd rob someone at gunpoint for some good ribs.

hmm, let's see.  Florida.  So either some sort of white trash ghetto gangsta, or black ghetto gangsta .... neither of whom are smart enough to go somewhere else to use/sell the cards.  As in a different county without crossing state lines.  Not that armed robbery isn't already a felony, but why add to the charges?

Tony: Bart, um, is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving
family?
Bart: No.
Tony: Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them?
Bart: Uh uh.
Tony: And, what if your family don't like bread? They like... BBQ?
Bart: I guess that's okay.
Tony: Now, instead of stealing BBQ, which could be messy. What if instead we stole credit cards to purchase BBQ? Would that be a crime, Bart?
Bart: Hell, no!

I'd get that checked out.

With every grocery store selling gift cards for dozens of different retailers, it's stupendously easy to launder a stolen credit card, if you're quick off the mark.

Also, Kansas City bbq is the best thing on earth, unless it is that vinegar-based crap..  What's wrong with you people?  Vinegar?  Probably vinegar-based in the malls; only way to get the meat to stay "fresh" so long.

The suspect placed a semi-automatic handgun to her head and demanded money. He removed a credit card from the victim's left front pocket and fled in a dark-colored SUV, deputies say.

About an hour later, the suspect - along with three other men - are seen on surveillance video with food that was purchased with the stolen credit card at Perry's Barbecue in University Square Mall.

You should be able to get a credit card cancelled in an hour. It's the future, people. Sure, it's a miserable future but you can still cancel a credit card in an hour.

vast majority of stores, not just grocery, do sell gift cards.  The fact, though, is that after the first month or so, the majority of those stores(read: all of them) also require that either it is debit(with a PIN you probably don't have, if the card is stolen), or cash.  I worked in one store when the asian mafia figured out the trick of maxing out stolen cards using gift cards.  Took the company for millions just in our area. Nowadays, the transaction won't even go through without a debit card.  Further precautions include anything over $100 requiring an ID.  So you have to look like the person on the card name.  Someone trying to biatch and moan about having done the same thing yesterday?  Probably stolen cards.  Saw one Saturday.  Nice looking white guy with some flowers and coffee for the wife, and a ton of gift cards; presents for the family.  ID, please?  Uh... I left it in the car....  Nice try, jerkoff

? Do you mean barbequed mall?

Or are you somehow claiming a store can not be good because of its location?

I don't think barbequed mall would be good, deepfried though...

Is this where we come to assert that the barbecue from our region is significantly better than that crap they try to pass off as barbecue wherever you're from?

Mostly this. At the risk of sounding like a food snob, you need some proper equipment if you want proper barbecue.

I'm not saying it's impossible, obviously, but I don't think of a mall if I think of barbeque.

Negative, there are two known good bbq joints within a short distance of where this man committed his heinous act. "Mall barbecue".. he should be ashamed.

That aside, I concede that it's well-known that those with fine taste relish mall-bbq. I am a culinary Philistine, don't like what you like, etc.

Before I RTFA, I assumed that both the robbery and purchase happened *within* the mall, based on Subby's headline.  Which would be entirely possible, in Tampa.

/I would have used it to buy some good Cuban food.

The poor unfortunates were so weakened from hunger that they had to purchase prepared food rather than go grocery shopping, which would have made their stolen credit card dollars go farther. We should start a collection for them. Maybe a collection of people with pitchforks and torches.
