(Huffington Post)   Did Republican media darling Chris Christie deliberately create a traffic jam on the nation's busiest bridge as political payback? And, no, he didn't do it by blocking the lanes with his body   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 87

Traffic flow on that bridge is never good, so that must have created ... OMG ... THE HUMANITY ... IT'S CHRIS CHRISTIE THE STA-PUFF MARSHMALLOW MAN!!!

Since the George Washington Bridge goes between two states, doesn't this give plenty of room for the US Senate committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation to also start poking in their noses? I wonder if Senator Rockefeller is inclined to stir up the toxic waste pool to see how much sludge will stick to Christie.

um, it's New Jersey.  there is a lot of traffic in new jersey.  especially the bridges.  there's no grand conspiracy.

...

if we've reached that point, we should probably just dissolve the Republic and start over with something more our style. Maybe a loose confederation of constantly warring fiefdoms whose leaders are decided by televised death matches.

he shut down two of the three lanes for a "traffic study" that didn't exist.

ManateeGag: um, it's New Jersey.  there is a lot of traffic in new jersey.  especially the bridges.  there's no grand conspiracy.

2 out of 3 lanes were closed down for days. The excuse was a "traffic study". Nobody seems to be able to produce any documents showing that an actual study was taking place or even talked about. Bridge employees, ambulance and local police were never notified anything was happening. It's SOP to notify the locals for any lane closures.

A Port Authority official with close ties to Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey is resigning after state lawmakers questioned whether lane closings on the George Washington Bridge that led to extensive traffic backups in September were politically motivated.

The official, David Wildstein, will resign as the director of interstate capital projects at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Jan. 1, according to a letter he wrote to the agency's deputy executive director, Bill Baroni.

Mr. Wildstein is a close friend of Christie. He has a cushy job, and he just quits?

It's the first time during his tenure as governor that Christie bullied somebody without making sure there's a camera crew to capture it all and put it on YouTube.

So a close personal friend and political appointee of Gov. Christie arbitrarily and without advanced notice shuts down two of three lanes of the busiest bridge in America in order to conduct a non-existent traffic study that just happens to significantly impact the town run by a Democratic mayor who refused to endorse Christie for reelection, and this sounds normal to you?

Because Christie is embarrassed by the BBQ sauce smeared all over it.  Duh.

Yes, and just like Benghazi, Chrisite deserves to have the stench of this highly dubious screw-up (at least, or screw-job if it was deliberate) for an excrucitaingly long time.

Your equivalence, after all.

Just fyi, the GW Bridge isn't the nation's busiest. The nation's busiest bridge is the Driscoll Bridge in New Jersey. In fact, it's also the one of the world's busiest bridges with 300k vehicles every day (GWB gets 275k), and it's the widest bridge in the whole world!

I read the article and have very little to actually contribute. I was just in Fort Lee though, and I can tell you the traffic coming from both sides really sucks. Fort Lee also sucks though, so there's that.

While this story is probably nothing, this comment is just stupid. Do you think that people decided to one day start blaming traffic on Christie for no reason? Of god damned course there was a bit more than "there was a lot of traffic" to the story. Otherwise, people would be calling for the heads governors in every state every day.

One more example of why I will never again vote for a repub. He seems to have his heart in the right place, but there's no way to tell if it's true. There have been too many repubs in the past few years who look you in the eye, lie through their teeth, and once they're in office, either blithely renege on their promises or pull some other weird shiat no one was expecting and completely unrelated to the issues they ran on.

In the final analysis, if Christie really was one of the good guys, he would not be repub. I understand looking out for Number One, but there needs to be a limit to how much you will betray your principles to achieve your goals. The repubs have long ago passed that limit.
