Reminds me of a store I visited in Pasadena called "Gold Bug." It was full of weird, expensive, artistic stuff, some of it formerly living.

I'm still waiting for the day that robotics and taxidermy join forces to be creepy as farking possible.

Is that felt for the rooks? I can't decide if it's horrifying or adorable!

The fact that the item is "made to order" bothers me for some reason.  If the seller came in to a supply of dead mice and decided to do this once, ok....but the killing continues.  Weird.

Check out Mark Pauline's work aka Survival Research Labs.  The piece "Rabbot" immediately comes to mind.

That is... I don't know, I'm pretty much speechless.  I do know, though,  that it wouldn't last long at Castle Xanadone.  I'd go out to buy cat food, and come back to find little mouse body parts scattered all over the house.

Mangoose: The second I read that headline I told myself I was going to buy it, but alas. Sold.

I am the sort of creepy person who would also buy this. But I'm wondering how well those little mice would hold up if you were to actually play with them on a regular basis. I have no idea as I've never handled any taxidermied animals for extensive periods of time.

I have a dancing robotic "gopher" from Caddyshack. It was never alive. You could make one out of a stuffed groundhog, I suppose.

All I know is that one of the reasons you don't touch taxidermy animals in museums is because of the chemicals used in the process. I'd be more worried about the arsenic getting on my fingers than accidentally breaking the creepy little mouse pawns.

Yeppers.  Arsenic quit being used around ~1993

You know we're going to be on that list. Tag 'em and bag 'em.

I'm imagining a chess set like this one, but the little mice run to each square, then when not moving, look around, twitch, and follow the movement of anything in the room.

Imagine have a guest over, they walk over to take a look at your unique chessboard, and all the pieces turn to look at them.

I'd like to order something a little larger, with dogs on one side and cats on the other.

I can't help but think I'd have nightmares about the mice coming back to life and battling in my living room.

Right.  Like Battlechess with Cats/Mice or Dogs/Cats etc...
