You can do something legal on your own property? Thanks, government. You're so nice to allow people that privilege. Are not our masters benevolent, to lighten the chains to such a degree?

Also, how do we teach kids that drugs are illegal and bad for them if we keep legalizing previously illegal drugs simply based on their popularity? What's next, meth?

Stop lying to your kids?

Shadi: yeah, but your smoke doesn't stay on your property.

Neither do your farts, nasty cooking smells, smoke from your exhaust, cigarette smoke, lawn tool noise, etc.

Get over yourself.

Neither does car exhaust, noise, the smell of (sometimes) bad cooking, children playing and sometimes their toys, leaves, etc. Yet somehow we manage to survive and generally tolerate such things as a society. A little bit of pot smoke (or even cigarette smoke, for that matter) is not going to hurt.

Neither do my tree leaves.  Some stuff you have to tolerate.

This case has been going on for a while - Denver went big for A64, and the people pretty much demanded that the city council license retail stores, but there's a few pants-wetters on the CC, and they have tried a bunch of tactics like you could not smoke in back yard either, closed drapes inside, etc.  It was beyond silly at the start, but the people spoke out and they realized that they were on very shaky ground and chose to do the right thing.

I dunno, I would like to say five years, I would like to think that President Obama would do the necessary before he's out of office, since he can basically make a couple of phone calls, sign some papers and reclassify it tomorrow.  But I think that we WILL see quite a few states in the next few years - I figure that once California and New York go for retail Cannabis sales, the Federal gov't will FINALLY figure out which way the M-F'ing wind is blowing and do the right thing.

However, we have to be compassionate to all the drug warriors who could lose their jobs in this sea-change.  I do believe we need to budget adequate funds for treatment of their addiction to drug money.

Being well north of Denver (and far away from the closest town), this wouldn't have impacted me personally one way or the other.  I do however think it was the completely the right decision.

I REALLY hope meth is next!  You have no idea how much I want meth to be legal.

Not that I'm interested in the meth.  I'm just sick of being treated like a criminal at the drug store because I don't want my nose stopped up.

This text is now purple: bigsteve3OOO: At least 25% of the time some jerk-off will chide me for the horrible odor and scold me on how I just polluted their precious lungs and how I offended them. I show them the unlit cigarette.

Smokers seem to think that non-smokers can't smell the smoke embedded in their clothing.
Non-smokers can.

Although that is true,  I am talking about people fake coughing and commenting at the mere sight of a cigarette in my mouth.  Even though it is unlit.  Not producing any smoke at all.  Usually from a distance of at least 10 feet.  Its the drama queens that do it.

You might have had a legitimate point  had you not compared legalizing weed to legalizing meth.  That just made you sound like a tool.

Langdon_777: Is there really a chance that sanity is going to arrive soon over this whole bullshiat war on drugs?

The city of Portland, ME just legalized pot. Here in Mass, in the last two elections we voted for medical marijuana, and then decriminalization of possession up to an ounce. Wouldn't be surprised to see Mass join CO and WA in legalizing recreational pot in 2014, 2016 at the latest. The tide is turning.

No it isn't. Smoking is smoking, a filthy, disgusting habit that should be furtively enjoyed by its idiot adherents in garbage-strewn alleys, not among decent folk. I don't care if it's weed or tobacco; keep that shiat to yourselves.

Well I hope you do not turn on a car tomorrow (esp not a desiel one.)

Cue the anti-smoking brigade.  As a lifelong smoker; I go way out of my way to remove myself from people to smoke.  Usually I put the unlit cigarette in my mouth on my way to an underpopulated outdoor area.  At least 25% of the time some jerk-off will chide me for the horrible odor and scold me on how I just polluted their precious lungs and how I offended them.  I show them the unlit cigarette.  Depending on my mood I either laugh at the over reaction or I comment on how the fat on them offends me and could they take that fat somewhere else.  It is especially pleasing to do that to ~40 year old helicopter moms.  I am certain from the reaction that they are not used to the truth of their physical appearance.   I usually remind them that fat is a choice made one bite at a time.

Hopefully, meth. Also heroin. Both should be free in great quantities to those who would use them. Then we hope for the best.

Dude, it's barely 600 miles from Berlin to London. It's more'n twice that between Denver and Raleigh.

/and yes I know that Berlin and London are two different countries, but sometimes miles makes more of a difference

For the first time in my adult life I don't feel like a petty criminal.  It is a relief.  A relief I hope every toker out there gets to feel one day.
