I believe this opens the door for the possibility of pot cafes with outdoor patio smoking sections, which is awesome.

You can do something legal on your own property? Thanks, government. You're so nice to allow people that privilege. Are not our masters benevolent, to lighten the chains to such a degree?

The amelioration of past mistakes is rarely stupid shiat.  Cannabis prohibition has put tens of thousands behind bars, costs billions of dollars, ripped apart families, and ruined lives for decades.  I, for one, will welcome its complete reversal.

From the article, it sounded like you might be able to smoke in public, as long as you walked across people's private lawns instead of the sidewalk. Unfortunately the law requires that you own the private property or have implicit/explicit toking permission of the owner.

http://www.denvergov.org/sirepub/cache/2/suuauv45rmvudlihpid3hbf0/49 12 5312102013024203863.PDF

On the upside, my legal-eagle interpretation is that people can toke up in public as long as they've got copious quantities of pot on them...and everyone under 21 will be required to own large (> 1 ounce) stashes at all times:

"Section 1. Subsection 38-175:
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of twenty-one (21) to possess one (1) ounce or less of marijuana.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to openly and publicly consume one (1) ounce or less of marijuana."

Neither does car exhaust, noise, the smell of (sometimes) bad cooking, children playing and sometimes their toys, leaves, etc. Yet somehow we manage to survive and generally tolerate such things as a society. A little bit of pot smoke (or even cigarette smoke, for that matter) is not going to hurt.

I spend many thousands of dollars on pounds of pot every year. I smoke...a lot. I'd actually consider buying legally if it was as high quality and cost less than I get from my guy. I don't think that would be the case, though.

I wish I could keep my neighbor's 4 kids from leaving their damned toys/bikes in the street.  Of course I also wish they would parent for a change instead of letting their toddler walk around in a diaper and barefoot up and down the street.

So, am I the only one that hates the smell of pot and the stupid mumblings that ramble out of the mouths of people high on pot?
Also, how do we teach kids that drugs are illegal and bad for them if we keep legalizing previously illegal drugs simply based on their popularity? What's next, meth?

Last summer in Telluride, I saw a group of 20-somethings wandering around with open containers - each smoking a bowl or joint.

They walked right past a police officer who immediately admonished them - to put their dog on a leash.

The fabric of society was maintained.
