Joan Jett and the Blackfish?

2013-12-09 06:37:16 PM
I hope this eventually turns into some kind of reform regarding performing animals. Doubt it though.

I love her. Shame that she's playing for the other side. :(

Why all of the sudden outrage with sea world?

Saw the Blackfish movie on CNN, I'll never go to Sea World again, it was horrific!

Watch the movie Blackfish. What they are doing is unbelievable.

Pretty much all animal captivity for entertainment is wrong.  I used to love the zoo as a kid, but now I think they should go bye-bye.  Turn them into skate parks.

I wonder if she can demand anything. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't own the rights to that song.

She can't. She probably made the same deal with ASCAP as everyone else. (ie, she gets royalty checks for various performances, recordings, and broadcasts of her songs, but has no say in who plays her songs, and can't recover the right to do so without cutting off all kinds of other revenue.)

One documentary is just one truth when there are many truths one of them is the fact they do save wildlife and they do get us close enough to appreciate these creatures that are too far away for the general public to understand.

From working with horses I understands that large animals are unpredictable I have been bit just because it took too long to saddle and bridle my horse. I also been bit because I wouldn't scare my granola bar with him. But got a kiss when I unclogged his colon with my hands when he got backed up after being sick.

Zoos are kind of a case-by-case basis thing. There are absolutely zoos that are cruel.
Many, however, are not, and are heavily involved in conservation, education, and animal welfare.
Some "marquee" animals, though otherwise treated well, are instinctively used to habitats far vaster than zoos can practically provide. However, I think that hardship is worth it in that it stokes public interest/sympathy for wildlife and their plight, including less showy species.

Didn't Chrissie Hynde have the same problem with Rush Limbaugh?

I wish she felt the same way about I Hate Myself For Loving You being turned into the Sunday Night Football theme.  That shiat's horrific.

I usually give flowers when that happens, but I guess a kiss is nice too.

won't it die if they release back into the wild?

Do what Chrissie Hynde did with "My City Was Gone" when Rush kept playing it. Take the royalties and donate them to her favorite (and Rush's not-favorite) charities.

It has to be a little awkward when a washed up rocker demands the park to stop playing her music only to find out they are not playing it.

Doesn't she have some Pacific Islander tribe that worships her as a Godess? Or am I thinking of Pat Benatar?

My local zoo is heavily involved in conservation and recovery programs for species that are close to extinction. I certainly would not like to see all zoos "go bye-bye" as such programs would be severely impacted and would possibly not even exist without them.

I'd rather that Rush stick to their own music, but you would think that Geddy Lee and Chrissie Hynde have similar interests in charities...

Regardless of copyright she could try exercising her Moral Rights. Would make an interesting case as this right is rather weak in a common law jurisdiction.

1. Create society where no one goes out in nature to enjoy animals in their natural habitat
2. Bring animals to human societies to live in shiatty conditions and in ways that prevent them from ever truly enjoying their lives
3. ???
4. Profit from the suffering of animals

/steps 1 and 2 sound awfully similar to what we've done by creating massive megacities
//and yet it's cruel to keep animals in those conditions?

The truth about Blackfish is that Seaworld is responsible for trainers dying due to Orca attacks.  The truth about Blackfish is Seaworld continues horrible practices while denying everything.  We're not talking about horses.  Apples to apples, please, not oranges.

Shamu is more of a Crimson and Clover fin.

I would have thought she needed the money.
I have seen her live three times:
First time was when she first reunited with the Blackhearts - she headlined, local band was warm up. Tickets were cheap.
Next time was at the 'Howard Stern Dysfunctional Family' tour - once again she headlined, warm up bands included Stuttering John, also attending were Hank the Angry Dwarf (RIP) and High Pitched Eric. Won the tickets at local station (they were giving away tickets - it was like 'the 18th through 92nd callers win free tickets!)
Last time I saw here was at 'Taste Fest' - playing right in the street for free. No warm up acts, just her.

I would think by now she'd be playing on a street corner, with guitar case open to toss change at.

It's just the fashion of the day. Wait a news cycle or two and it'll be hip to protest Jiffy-Lube or waffles or some other random thing.

Step right up and spin the wheel-of-outrage.

Corporate interests are too high, there may be a call for reform, but that will be replaced by preserving the revenue stream. Some big names will take a stand, but eventually that will be eroded by smaller acts, until it's back to business as usual. I know it sucks, but that's the way it goes.

How does Sea World save wildlife ? they steal young orcas from their pods to then throw them into tiny cells where they are often violently harassed by the larger, tougher inmates and can look forward to a long life of learning tricks to entertain the ignorant crowds who leave believing they have been in contact with playful animals who love performing for them.

There are many zoos around the world that do a commendable job of saving wildlife. Sea World is not one of them. Sea World is a performing circus.

Maybe they should use one of Joans other original bandmebers songs ; )

Lita Ford - Kiss Me Deadly

/The orcas may agree ; )

Sea World should have been tried for crimes against humanity when they shot Jaws 3D there.

Kind of a biotch to do when licensing is signed and properly paid for.

Well I seem to remember her saying in an interview something along the lines of that just because shes in a relationship with another woman doesnt mean she is attracted only to other women, so apparantly she claims to be bi even though she is in a les relationship... I'll be in my bunk.

Oh well, I don't give a shiat about licensing or whether they play her songs with or without permission. I guess I was talking in general about all the attention Sea World has been getting lately.

They could replace that Joan Jett song with Will You Be There by Michael Jackson.

There again, that song had legal problems of it's own!
