I had to google it.  A clementine or tangerine.  Which is pretty impressive for a pancreas tumor.  It's a miracle she's still alive.

abhorrent1: If it was pancreatic cancer, he likely didn't save her for long.

What makes the prognosis for pancreatic cancer so grim is  that it is almost never caught in its early stages. This girl was doubly lucky: first because her boyfriend convinced her to see a doctor, second because the doctor quickly decided to do an ultrasound and thereby managed to discover the growth on her pancreas while it was still in its early stages. Most patients are not that lucky. Even when they consult a doctor, lots of precious time is wasted pursuing other possible diagnoses before settling on the proper one. By then it is often too late for any effective treatment.

FTS: Miraculously, the growth was judged to be precancerous and there were no signs of the cancer spreading to any other part of her body.

Maybe she has a shot. And not all types of pancreatic cancer are the same. Steve Jobs actually had a very treatable form, he just chose to not treat it until it was too late.

Dumbass. ; )

Satsuma is a Japanese wrestler mandarine type loose-skinned orange. Doesn't it sound Japanese?

In addition to being a type of citrus fruit, it is a type of snail, a Japanese feudal domain, a peninsula, a province, a town, a district, a city, a battleship of the Imperial Japanese navy, a plum, a type of pottery, a rebellion, a biwa or Japanese lute, and four towns in Texas, Alabama, Louisiana and Florida.

What? You didn't know all this already?

; )

Is Google down or something?

To be honest, I Googled this the last time somebody mentioned Satsuma on Fark.com and didn't remember anything except the citrus fruit, but I'm learning.

Just remember that Satsuma is all over Japan and the US South.

I wonder if Florida has a town named after the Ugli fruit?

Welcome to Ugli, Florida
Population: The Fugglies and a lot of fruit

The article fails to mention that the young lady went on to save 20 more lives while speed dating.

She may be a hypochondriac but she's a damn good amateur diagnostician as long as it is somebody else's disease.

It also appears that they got engaged at that age.  And are still engaged four years later.  When I was that age and saw people get engaged without any near-term plans to actually get married, it was so they could feel less guilty about having sex.  Which is really an awful reason to decide to get married.
