Carrie....

I love Jesus,  Seriously, he is my savior, he died for my sins. I am in no way being sarcastic about my faith even though this is FARK.  I am a sinner saved by grace, pure and simple.

You my dear are a horrible actress. It's not a personal attack, it's just the truth. You really need to never act again....like ever.

I saw "Soul Surfer" at the theater a couple years back. I could tell at that point from your 2 minutes of screen time that you should never ever play another role in a movie ever unless you're playing yourself.

God gave you the ability to sing, and you're pretty easy on the eyes...play to your strengths.

Don't take it personally.

EyeballKid: rugman11: She's a multiple Grammy-Award winning singer who's also capable of drawing 8.50 million viewers for a televised concert special.  She may not be able to act, but she's a legitimate performing artist.

Wow, so she's on par with these legitimate performing artists.

You do realize that the performance itself is an art, right?  That one need not necessarily create art to be an artist?

Is this guy an artist?

Or this guy?

Or this guy?

They're all artists who interpret and perform the works of others.  That's why the call it the farking "performing" arts.

If you're going to take on roles immortalized by Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews, you had better be excellent or expect criticism.

Karaoke game show winners need acting lessons. PROTIP: Go the Jennifer Hudson route and star as a person who really wants to be a singer.

SunsetLament: I thought it was pretty good.  I've never seen the movie, so I wasn't spending the entire three hours comparing it to something else.  But as a three hour piece of television programming, I found it to be entertaining.  I think some people have no idea how difficult putting on three hours of live TV like this can be - this was a stage show, not a TV movie.

As for the people tied to the original film (including the Von Trapp descendants)?  They should realize that there are thousands of people (like myself, I suppose) who never saw the original (and will never see the original) that will know their family's story because they watched this show.  They should be appreciative that they got someone like Underwood to draw these (primarily young) people in.

Go and watch the film, then see if your original assessment stands. Those of us (and there are MILLIONS of us) who have seen the original, snicker at those who think this was anywhere in the realm of good.

Stunt casting is an inextricable part of theater production, and I accept that.  There's no doubt that putting a household name on the marquee usually results in a larger audience.

But is it really too much to ask to cast actors when a role involves acting, singers when it involves singing, and people capable of both when that's what's required?

DECMATH: I congratulate the writers though, for tightening the story. The dialog made the plot structure and motivation more obvious than in the movie.

Have to disagree. I get that it was based on the Broadway version, but SoM is about the kids, Maria, and the Captain. 90% of the audience for this thing know the Movie only. It's a mistake to have the scenes/songs with the Baroness and Max thrown back in.

My wife pointed out that since they changed the song order so that "My Favorite Things" happened in the abbey, it didn't make sense for the kids to know it when Maria returns.

For fark's sake, can't any entertainers handle criticism anymore? John farking Coltrane took plenty of shiat in his day from critics, but he never let it get to him. He didn't call negative criticism hate, or mean, or say that the person needed Jesus. He just kept on farking playing, doing his thing. That's how a real artist, a real pro, deals with it. They don't whine and piss and moan and biatch about how mean everybody's being to them, they suck it up. Carrie Underwood, Kimye, Bieber, they should all leave the spotlight, forever. Not because I have no use for their work, I can tune out their bullshiat easily enough. No, they should all quit because they can't take it when someone, somewhere, doesn't like them. Bunch of whiny gutless twerps.

DECMATH: Why single her out?  Most of the actors gave what looked to me like a high-school-theatre performance.  One guy (the admiral?) even obviously forgot a line!  We only see the actors, but it's the directors who get what they want (or what they think they need) out of the actors, and if it's good enough for them, it gets no better.

I congratulate the writers though, for tightening the story.  The dialog made the plot structure and motivation more obvious than in the movie.

I think they just used the original book from the Broadway version.  It was the movie that jumbled things around and left out a few songs.

But to answer your question: The reason she was singled out was because she was the lead performer and was heavily advertised as the star of the show.  There's no way this would have been aired without someone like Carrie Underwood as a star attraction.

Yeah Carrie, and you need acting lessons.  You've got a great voice, but you couldn't act your way out of a paper bag if one end was open.

look at who has co-writer credits on her albums, it is like a who's who of Nashville song writers, it is not a bringing in a musician friend to help you find that one chord or one rhyme

Zappa always said he liked the monkees because they were as fake as everyone else but were honest about it, now we have 80s former stars and songwriters writing all the songs but they stay behind the scenes. Today's King and Geffen's are suppose to stay behind the curtain so that people can believe it is still real to them damn it.

Meh you're kindsa right I guess, but like you said a lot of the writers you dont know about. Here's one:

Strangely enough, here's another:

/if you're my age, you know aho they both are...think about it.
//they write a lot of hit songs both early 2000 and late 90's

If Carrie Underwood is looking for something to do with her mouth, hands and body when she's not singing or acting, I've got some ideas.

This has nothing to do with Carrie Underwood and everything to do with the ridiculous idea that performers aren't artists.

I'm glad I could help meet your quota for the day.

Christianity has been in the process of being busted for a couple of millenia now....If it's truly on it's way out it's certainly taking it's time getting there.

Well, there's your first red flag. Carrie Underwood is no artist. She's a game show winner who gets to sing other people'shiats while looking pretty.
