These GOP primaries coming up will be awesome

All you can really count on is that whoever the republican(or whatever party is holding the social conservatives at the time) party hates today is a hero of tomorrow.

Really?  Usually the Republicans take about 15 years to shout down Newt's ideas.  Well, I mean, once a black Democrat runs with them.

Does TPM have any articles that aren't greenlit at Fark?

Anyone can post a comment on the net. Anyone. Hint.

I don't know if any of you saw the threads about Mandela on the Facebook pages of Rick Perry and Ted Cruz, amongst others. The lulz were thick and fast.

The first task to the GOP getting back in the game should be "Don't be the shiatshow we were in 2012."

They really ratcheted things up to pants-crapping intensity starting in February and went all-out until the election in November.

yes. Do they normally have someone other than me submit those greenlit threads? Sometimes :D

Let's see. Spend years calling Mandela a commie on a par with Stalin in the conservative press. Spend years in the conservative painting him as a hater of white people who will commit unspeakable acts against them, then spend years never correcting any of that or showing how he actually governed, and folks are going to have the idea that you're supporting a monster when you praise him upon his death. It's almost like there's some sort of cost for misleading people.

If you think about it, Reagan vetoed sanctions on South Africa.

Problem is the midterms almost always go to the minority party. They're counting on picking up seats in 2014, and the math (and that precedent) is somewhat behind them.

Of course, if they decide to be balls-out crazy again, combined with a healthy dose of Mandela-hate (though I suspect we'll have politically forgotten about him in the next 11 months), 2014 might mean that Obama gets to end his term the way he began it - with an actual eye toward the left horizon (but not on it, because ignoring capital needs in favor of actual people is terrorism).

You know how I know you didn't read the article? Because it actually details how Gingrich was one of the Republicans who helped overrule Reagan's veto of the Anti-Apartheid measure when it went through Congress. This is one of the times when Newt has actually stuck to his guns on a matter longer than it took for the cameras to shut off.

Dr Dreidel: They're counting on picking up seats in 2014, and the math (and that precedent) is somewhat behind them.

What they're not realizing is that demonizing the Pope will alienate Catholics.  Demonizing Mandela will alienate blacks.  (not like they have any ground left to lose, there).  The historical math is in their favor, sure.  But their current 'message' is not helping the situation.

2013-12-09 11:44:46 AM
The Tea Party hates Gingrich because he treated a non-caucasian as a human being. Since the Tea Party (and by extension, All Republicans) has white supremacy as one of its core principles, they now view Gingrich as a race traitor.

Republicans have a 5% advantage due to gerrymandering alone.  there are people in this country that will always vote Republican no matter what.

But think of the crazy, white, entitled vote they're now getting! This new demographic more than makes up for the loss.

But most of the rest of the GOP wasn't as reasonable, and that's why nobody with a working brain cell is surprised at the reaction to Newt's comments.

Sorry, bad writing on my part - "You" does not refer to Gingrich. It refers to the standard handling of Mandela over the last 30 years in the conservative press. My point is that Mandela was painted as a monster, and then he was basically ignored. That's why any conservative praising Mandela (even ones like Gingrich and McConnell who supported sanctions against the Apartheid government) are going to get a lot of backlash. Plenty of the base believe Mandela was a monster because that's what they were told, and no one told them any different.

/And there were Democrats who also were against Mandela. It's just that the more liberal outlets painted a more accurate picture of the work he did after he was elected.

If the stats I've seen on Fox are accurate, this means they're now pulling in 350 percent of the vote.  That should work out great for them!

Listen, Newtie, no matter how hard you try Winnie Mandela will not be giving you a beej.

Just find an intern in DC to service you orally. And quickly. You'll be happy, she'll be happy and certainly the rest of the world will be happy that you are too busy to comment on anything more important than how badly you need to be sucked off.

"In all fairness to Reagan, Reagan's ambassador to South Africa consistently put pressure on the government to modify its position and consistently condemned apartheid," Gingrich said. "But their commitment was to defeat the Soviet empire."

Which was largely a threat that they invented.

Well, Mandela did say that he found socialism to be the best form of economic system created so far in Long Walk to Freedom, and as we all know, that means that he hated America and also white people.

I'm not convinced Mandela will factor in. November 2014 is eleven months away, more than 11x the media's attention span.

I wouldn't invest in Tesla either if I didn't know what powered the cars.

Because all the racist bastards have kind of been pooling at the base of the Republican party ever since the 60's. They are more than happy with brutal government oppression so long as the "Right" people are doing the oppression. I posed a question on Infowars.com along the lines of "would anyone here be willing to to happily live under the same conditions black people did under apartheid without fighting back."  The question was deleted.

Well, hey, um....

"In all fairness to Bush, Bush's Secretary of State consistently put pressure on the U.S. government to not go into Iraq until he was lied to by the same government and then lied to the UN Nations," coeyagi said. "But their commitment was to defeat enemies from the 1990s including Shredder, Simon Gruber, the T-1000 and Castor Troy."
