There is no world's best drummer, but if there were, Tony Allen would certainly be in the conversation.

I stopped an old man along the way
hoping to find some old forgotten cure or ancient melody
He turned to me as if to say
Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you......

There is no world's greatest drummer, but as long as we are talking about insanely talented drummers from obscure countries, you have to mention Ben Hakalitz.

While that was fun as hell to watch (really), that dude's in it for show, and his meter is all over the place. Really, really bad timing and his spacing on the quick runs isn't consistent. I wouldn't even put him in the best amongst drummers in my town, let alone the world.

Listen to the Africa 70. It's pretty hard to describe here.

I may have been missing some sarcasm, though. Fun video, thanks.

I thought it said the world's best drummer *plays* Africa. Jeff Porcaro was pretty damn good. He's not around anymore, sadly.

Ginger and Tony have played together as recently as this year. There's a live album of Fela's from 1971 with both of them too.

Speaking of the Aristocrats, both Guthrie Govan and Marco played on Steven Wilsons newer album. And I'll second the monster comment.
