That takes some guts to do that in Russia

Love EJ's music up until 1975, can't imagine him being able to hit even half of the notes he used to. That said, I've heard he's put on good shows in recent years.

Peter von Nostrand: That takes some guts to do that in Russia

Yeah like the Russians are going to arrest Elton John. England would just send James Bond up there to straighten shiat out (no pun intended).

Not really. Elton John is pretty much untouchable. It would validate the world's opinion of Russia's policies, and negatively impact their bottom line. If anything is true about Russia, they care about money more than they care about morals.

Well if a movie character can't do it, no one can

Putin poisoned a guy while he was in England. I don't think he cares

So Putin kills Elton John, or arrests him. Either way.

The entire western world sees one of it's most famous, most beloved entertainers being openly persecuted by a country that is, relatively, still hated for the business it engaged in from 1945 to 1992 in Europe.

Putin may be a bastard, but he's not an idiot, dude. The Russians are not going to risk crashing their fragile economy on something like that.

Very few people would have the guts to say it. That's my point. I don't believe they're going to ship him off to the gulags

Watched his iTunes festival show about a month ago. He certainly doen't have the same range anymore but he still puts on a good show. Worth checking out.

Polices are great when it's just dirty foreigners being oppressed by it. No one cares, because it's not one of them.

Those policies change when a man who is quite literally loved by a great portion of the western world is oppressed and murdered because of those policies.

Would have took more guts to boycott Russia and not play there. But money's money. Elton made his, the Russian Gov't/Mob made their money off the concert, everyone is happy. I wouldn't expect they would be too bothered about a gay entertainer they let in the country speak about gay matters.

Elton John's fans, on the other hand? That's a different story.

Glad you could make money off their blood, Sir Elton. Hope you enjoy the feeling of moral superiority you pretend to when you watch your bank statement go up a few notches.

More like:
some politicians display their outrage at a press conference while money and gas keep flowing in and out of Russia.
Two days later Miley Cyrus has shaken her ass at a camera again and people would vaguely recall something about Elton John taking a holiday at Lake Nobody Cares.

Elton John played Rush Limbaugh's wedding. You write Sir Elton a big enough check and he'll do anything.

/and Rush had a gay wedding.

Not if you're Elton John. What are they going to do, arrest him? The shiat storm that would ensue would bury them - you should have seen the monkey try to get the cork back in.

It would cause a diplomatic crisis with the UK. Elton John is considered a national treasure. Add to that the fact that Elton John is very highly valued amongst the local population in Russia.

Lulz. Like Russians need encouragement to drink.

Hero? This is the guy that took the white apartheid money back in the early 80s and played Sun City. So, I guess he considers the rights of homosexuals quite highly, but as he's white, well, fark black people.

2013-12-08 06:11:26 PM
So, after decades of oppression of every kind, no freedoms of expression, art, religion or press, gulags, political prisons and untold deaths of those that opposed the power elites, it's Russia's stance on homosexuality that finally gets those in the entertainment industry all upset?

Russia is getting a lot of bad publicity from arresting people and overcharging them.

Pussy Riot:  Really?  2 of them are still in prison?  All they did was stage an improptu concert in a church
Greenpeace:  I hate Greenpeace, but that's getting a lot of press and making Russia look bad.

If they were to arrest Elton John?  The world would go nuts. Elton John has money and lawyers and fans all over the world.  I like some of his music, but not enough to have ever bought any of his albums.  He's gay.  That's okay.  Even Putin is not stupid enough to arrest him.

2013-12-08 07:24:15 PM

They have to wait until after the Olympics, at least. Then they can poison him (don't worry about the World Cup, they'll just move it to Qatar).

2013-12-08 08:13:53 PM
Six months time, they won't kill him live on stage, it'll be in six months time.
He'll get some plutonium or something in his botox.

Well, they could arrest him, and say he off entertaining the Greenpeace 30, or 20, or however many of them who are still alive.  Elton better watch out, though, they killed off the Tsar and Tsarina, so an old queen like himself wouldn't stand a chance.

What an asshole.

Wouldn't this be like people going to South Africa and whilst playing Sun City, proclaim Apartheid is wrong?

Elton John is a money-grabbing whore. He shouldn't have gone in the first place.

Subby, he's no Hero, he's a hypocritical prick.

You mean through the present, right? The shift from communism was mostly a meaningless load of BS. The important players stayed in power, and let idiots in the western world worship their "brave leaders" who "saved" them from communism without changing a damn thing. Reagan didn't "defeat Communism", Stalin did. Later Russian leaders were smart enough to let Reagan make that claim while they moved beyond a name that had long since become meaningless in practical terms.
