At least now we'll have a chance at seeing a good football game and not just a vastly overrated Buckeyes team getting blown off the field in a national title game again.

Grew up in Ohio hating this team, and it's seasons like this that only have reinforced that.

I read some of local sports message boards and so many people think there has been some vast, crazy conspiracy against OSU for years now on why they haven't had a national title shot.

No, you don't get one because your team didn't play anybody and your team, once again, couldn't handle a meaningful game.

Good point.. those four people totally saw this coming.   To be honest, it seems like the only people that wanted OSU to be there was Buckeye country.  There seemed to be a collective sigh of relief last night when they lost.

ESPN must be pissed that their 'a one-loss SEC team should be ahead of Ohio State' drama/talking point got ditched.  The talking heads have been drilling on their assigned positions about this and now all that sweet, sweet drummed-up controversy is phut.  Thankfully, there is always something else to wank about, but they really had their little whore-hearts set on a big ol' SEC dick-rub, and dick-rubbin' requires friction.

Now, they'll have to resort to tawdry 'a rapist shouldn't be playing' sub-text.

Joking aside, OSU struggled against northwestern and Michigan, two teams that MSU dominated, so your prediction was spot on.

Yep. Florida State will beat them up, take their lunch money, give 'em a swirlie, then run their drawers up the flagpole.  And then Auburn will win on yet another Malzahn Miracle.

This is what happens when you build fake national championship teams by beating up on also-rans. And it's not just OSU's fault. They can't help it that the Big 10 has so many bad teams. But a lot of that was predictable going into the season, so they needed to use their OOC schedule to raise their strength of schedule to something defensible. You don't do that by adding Buffalo and Florida A&M to an already cake schedule. Especially when you're only able to beat Buffalo by 20 just a week before Baylor hangs 70 on them.

Instead, OSU plays big fish in little pond, and when it finally plays its only top 10 team in 2 years, OSU shiats the bed. I feel bad for OSU fans because, like good fans, they defend their team, but their team doesn't keep faith with them when it counts. Instead of playing make-believe with their fans every year, OSU should focus on playing a serious schedule that doesn't require everyone to turn a blind eye to the reality of these paper tiger winning streaks.

Why do I think Alabama is still gonna jump Auburn?

Maybe because the last BCS championship needs to come straight out of a WWE script?

I also lived in Ohio for most of my life, and I grew to hate this team because of the fans. Sure, you had a 24 game winning streak, but you did not play anyone in the top 10. You only one one title in the BCS era on a questionable pass interference call at best.
You lost. Deal with it.

How could it? Alabama is ranked below Auburn, Auburn has head-to-head, Alabama didn't play, and Auburn just hung 59 points on the #5 team.

I'm pretty sure we can give up the conspiracy theories. Alabama jumping Auburn should be a possibility. The mental and statistical gymnastics needed would be mind boggling. Bama will play in some other BCS bowl, Mizzou will (again) be left out after losing the title game.

Not happening.  Only way Bama would've had a prayer is if, along with the Sparty win, Mizzou had barely pulled off the win.

I always used to think highly of Ohio State. They way they immediately canned their legendary coach Woody Hayes after he went ape crap on the Clemson player stands out in my mind as their enduring image.

But then they started that "THE" Ohio state university garbage and I thought goodness could you be more smugly annoying? Then came the Marcus Hall incident. If the system were fair the National Championship game would be Auburn-Alabama II, but the whole thing is rigged against the SEC.

Clearly Auburn will be #1 in the polls after this weekend (although it shouldn't be).  Let's go through their possible opponents in January.

- Ohio State plays in a week conference, and was manhandled by a team from Michigan.   Michigan for crissake, a state with a bunch of feeble directional schools.  tOSU almost lost to U Michigan, a 7-5 joke.
- Florida State is undefeated, but look at the schedule.  Nevada.  Bethune-Cook. Idaho.  This is not a strong team.  True, FSU won the ACC, but only via a game against Duke (hahahahaha), and in a conference so weak that a mediocre Florida State team managed to go undefeated.
- Oklahoma State has two losses (in the irrelevant Big 12)
- Mizzou also has two losses.  They are quality SEC losses, but still the losses hurt.
- Michigan State only has one loss, but, like OSU, plays in the Big 10, and the conference championship win was against a team we have already seen is not worthy of a top ranking.

So that leaves Alabama.  This is a team that has won the last two National Championships, and was undefeated until a freak last-second play from Auburn managed to break a tie.  More to the point, undefeated in the best conference in the country, the SEC. Only the best conference in the nation could produce a team as all-conquering as Alabama and a team so good it is able to beat Alabama.

Think about it: the best team in the country, Alabama, is in the SEC.  The conference also has Auburn, a team able to do something no other conference can manage: beat Alabama.  It has so much depth that even LSU, a team good enough be beat Auburn, has three losses.

So while the rigged polls and biased media will put FSU in the championship game, Alabama is more deserving.  The loss to Auburn proves it.

Dude, whatever you've been smoking, you should probably stop.  There is absolutely zero chance that Auburn will be #1 in ANY of the polls after this weekend. Nada, Zilch. FSU just dismantled Duke in the ACC Championship to finish undefeated with a ridiculously high average margin of victory for the season coupled with a ridiculously low points given up per game average.

Satan's Chocolate Starfish: This is what happens when you build fake national championship teams by beating up on also-rans.

Beg pardon?  FSU padded its record with OOC Bethune-Cook, Nevada and Idaho, while also popping some perenial conference doormats.  Auburn, aside from losing to LSU, rolled on Arkansas St., W. Carolina, and Florida Atlantic.  Last year, 'Bama won a national championship with W. Kentucky, W. Carolina and Florida Atlantic. In 2011, it was Kent State, North Texas and Georgia Southern.

Whichever team ends up winning the NC, it will have been largely built 'by beating up on also-rans'.
